"The Unspoken Bond" by Peter Wilde stands in the main lobby of Building 10 (Eagle) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Many pass it daily - perhaps you have - but do you know what it signifies?
The plaque next to the statue and the pedestal alongside the bottom collectively read as follows:
"The Unspoken Bond donated by ‘Dr.’ William Laing in honor of Navy Hospital Corpsmen who have served with and cared for Marines who were injured in battle. The statue depicts the bond between Navy corpsmen and Marines. It was dedicated on September 2, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II hostilities in the Pacific... ‘Doc’ was the special comrade who pulled them to safety and patched their wounds, and shared their foxholes. Established in war and enabled in peace, this bond will always endure."
