As you all know if you follow my blog (and other than the occasional Juno Birch appreciation post), I pretty much do nothing but historical gameplay. Roaring twenties to be more specific, daaahling!
However, one of the things I really struggle with is making unique characters with distinctive faces. I don't know why but somehow my sims always end up looking very much alike and it's very frustrating as I usually develop background stories for them and I like their appearances to match their stories.
That's why after gathering some inspiration from amazing creators such as @pixelshary or @dashisims while also trying to maintain my own personal style, I've recently been embracing and playing around with a more cartoon-ish CAS style.
I downloaded some sliders and presets to make the eyes and head shape waaay bigger to achieve that cartoon look and I have to say... I kinda love it! It's turning out very Disney like, which I believe complements my 1920s aesthethic beautifully (I'm thinking of one my favorite Disney characters ever aka the ICONIC Lottie La Bouff from The Princess and the Frog). What do you think?
Would you please help me out naming her? I'm thinking Hedda in honor of the legendary Hedda Hopper. But what should her last name be?
Also, huge shut-out to the one and only @happylifesims without whose content my game would be literally NOTHING lol😅
Whose sim closet would you raid? townie, mutual, or your own
Juniper, Penelope (YA), Yellow (YA) by Perolesims, Dulce by Matchalovertrait, Pearl by Mdshh… Well, anyone who knows these characters knows they don’t have the same style lol. I really don’t have a defined personal style. I just go with what looks good to me 😂
What references shaped your CAS style?
Normally, I base it on the Sim’s personality. Penelope is a loner, she loves books, pink, and flowers. So I gave her a cuter, more tropical style. Juniper, on the other hand, is geeky but also a real party girl, so her style is more laid-back, kind of tomboyish. But I also love light clothing and always use it, especially when my Sims become adults.
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
I love darker colors, and I hate (in-game) very light colors (like white). With strong lighting, the Sim looks like a lightsaber 💀. It drives me nuts. Still, I end up using white a lot lol.
What’s something you always do when styling sims?
Eyelashes, blush, lip gloss, nails, and eyeliner. For me, those are almost sacred. Even when I’m fixing up a random townie, I always add those, even if everything else is from the base game. I always invest in their makeup to make them look presentable.
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
Glasses. I loved using glasses on Penelope and, believe it or not, she was the first Sim I ever gave glasses to. So even though I don’t use them that often, they’ve become a CAS item I’d defend with my life.
Dream CC collection?
A tropical everyday collection. I’m from a tropical country, so comfort to me means light, breezy clothes lol. But I always find an abundance of CC with long sleeves and pants. That’s why I end up using the same T-shirts and shorts over and over or spend ages trying to find lighter pieces for my Sims. A collection of men’s tropical clothes would also be amazing, since most of what I see is sweaters, jackets, coats.
Do your sims dress for the plot or the screenshot?
My Sims dress for the plot. There are outfits my Sims have that have never shown up in a screenshot, but they’re still in their wardrobes waiting for their moment to shine lol
I was tagged by the lovely and amazing storyteller @simscici, thank you! I'm not the greatest when it comes to CAS. I'm getting better, though! I've started using more skin details and caring what my main sims wear, at least, but generally I let the randomize button do it's work and carry on!
Still, that doesn't mean I'm not somewhat conscious of it all!
Whose sim closet would you raid? townie, mutual, or your own
I'm not raiding any closets because I'm happy in sweatshirts and jeans, but I love the style of so many sims! I enjoyed updating some of Lilith's outfits and dressing her for her wedding to Felix in my own save, and I feel like a lot of her style is comfortable enough for me, too.
But I also love Juniper Vilela's style, even though I'm still stuck in my skinny jean era and the trends have moved on! I love stylish sims and the list is way too long to mention, but I'd probably never dress like them, myself! I just appreciate the pixels and what is, often, incredible cc, too!
What references shaped your CAS style?
I think about the sim's personality and also what I think looks good, but not always. For example, grandmother of over half a dozen, Gen 1 founder Daisy Nesbitt, is still wearing the same knit crop top and capris for her hot weather outfit that she wore as a young adult. I don't usually think about these things until after the fact, but the Sims In Bloom challenge also has colours for each generation, which is helpful for me when I'm in CAS.
I get lazy because the choice seems honestly endless and I'm like 'just about anything is fine' most of the time, but now I'm narrowing down choices by colour and it gives me so much more time to browse and choose.
I don't go overboard with this and keep the colours subtle (Heather is green and yellow but I'll put her in other colours, too, and the outfits she has play with different shades). Lavender's colours are light purple and dark purple, but with the guys in the house I'm not thinking about colours as much and just looking for styles I like them in. And sometimes I'm choosing clothes on a whim or leaving them in what they randomize. As long as they're not wearing accessories that don't belong, I can work with it!
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
I have no idea. There are thousands in my game right now, but I'm glad I have that much variety to sometimes have the energy to sift through! OH WAIT the EA hairs that give enormous foreheads, least favourite hands down.
What’s something you always do when styling sims?
Check their side profile to make sure it doesn't need tweaking. One thing I always do when styling sims is check the full body outfits for something suitable first because it takes less time than finding a top/bottom combo that I like.
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
My Fleur skinblend default override by lunamoth (an overlay version is also available). I love how it looks on every sim, and I can still use overlays over it if needed.
Dream CC collection?
Never thought about it. There's so much out there I haven't even discovered or thought to want yet that anything I could come up with here is probably already out there!
Do your sims dress for the plot or the screenshot?
Always plot, and not many outfits per sim, either. I like to keep them appearing consistent from post to post and none of my sims are particularly fashion forward as a matter of plot (except Bridgette Landgraab, who does have more outfits than the average but isn't seen often!)
Tagging anyone who'd like to do this one. I enjoyed answering them even though I'm the CAS-laziest!
As it happens, I’m taking an editing break, so your timing is perfect 🤘🏾✨
Whose closet would you raid? (Townie, mutual, or your own)
Many moons ago, I would’ve loved to have raided Sugar’s closet from WEIRD & WONDERFUL - her clothes are so fun. You know half of her clothes she got from estate sales, vintage thrift stores, favors and gifts from avant-garde designers. I see many moons ago because I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing clothes as revealing as she does nowadays, but there was a time I would’ve jumped at the chance.
Speaking of many moons ago (during my wilder years) I probably would’ve died for a roll through Mrs. Drake’s from @cinamun TFA
What references shaped your CAS style?
I’m gonna go ahead and cosign @mysimsloveaffair ‘s comment about it being 100% based on the character I’m creating. As a matter of fact, I can’t even dress them till I know who they are.
Fun fact? A lot of them tend to wear the same clothes every day because it’s kind of their uniform. I wear the same thing every single day unless I have to go somewhere particular; I guess for certain characters I feel the same way about them as well ( example: Cora and Jude only change clothes for business or a night out )
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
Interesting – again, I’d have to say it depends on the character, but the type of swatch I generally avoid are the “baby colors” (pinks, pastels, etc - unless that’s the type of character they are)
What’s something you always do when styling Sims?
I don’t know if this counts as styling, but I always give them what I call The Treatment ™️ (lashes, brow fix, edges if needed, neutral lip gloss if they don’t wear lipstick, and of course, moisturize )
CAS item your defend with your life?
Septum piercings. Fight me.
Dream CC Collection?
Overall, I’d love to see more cultural representation – more African styles, more Caribbean styles, etc.
I’d also like to see more every day clothing; middle of the road stuff. We have plenty of dramatic clothing as well as hot girl shit. Give me more stuff you’d see in the average closet that actually fits the way an average person would wear them. I love playing dress up, but some of my every man characters could use some help sometimes.
Lastly, I’d love more draped, clothing – kind of in the style of Norma Kamali or Isaac Mizrahi. I realize it’s hard in game to pull that off without a lot of clipping, but you said dream.
Does your Sim dress for the plot or the screenshot? Mostly for the plot, but they do their thing for a screenshot occasionally.
Thanks! This was fun!
If anybody wants to give this a shot, consider this year, engraved invitation 🖤🤘🏾✨
Whose sim closet would you raid? (townie, mutual, or your own)
I would also like to raid Melany's closet, but she can keep all the crop tops lol. I'd also love to raid Nadia's closet, but I'd never be able to pull off her style
What references shaped your CAS style?
My CAS style is really shaped by the cc I find. When I look back at old posts, I can see the various eras I was in. I think my "style" is really just a collection of items I love and constantly use.
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
If I lean towards particular swatches, they would be colors I personally like. But most of the time my sims have a favorite color, so I tend to dress them in those swatches.
What’s something you always do when styling Sims?
This is my process: Roll a random skin tone (I use Bare by @lamatisse), find a hair/beard, put all my favorite skin details on, apply lashes and fingernails, do makeup if appropriate, and dress them.
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
Little Details by @nesurii
Dream CC collection?
JEANS WITH BELTS!!
(ahem)
Pardon me. I would appreciate more casual clothes. You know...something I can dress my teens in without looking like a fast little girl! Something my regular, non-celebrity/rich sims can wear without looking like they just stepped out of a fashion magazine.
Do your sims dress for the plot or the screenshot?
Mostly for the plot. I try to avoid photoshoots. My sims usually have a full closet. As much as I love CAS, I do not love having to constantly go in there and change their outfits. So I fill every slot so I can their clothes when I need to. When they've worn everything, then I'll refresh their wardrobes.

Oh, lord.. I mean, Occam's wardrobe is pretty snazzy, so maybe hers, or Nadja's. If it's dark and elegant, I want it.
What references shaped your CAS style?
I don't know that I really have a definitive CAS style outside of "Yup, that's an alternative occult," but I guess being immersed in alternative subcultures from a young age and also being obsessed with horror movies/books/art has something to do with it. I like spooky shit and monsters, I dunno. I also get inspired by random images on the internet and keep those stashed away in a sideblog to use as CAS inspiration, so there's that as well.
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
This is a TS4 question, but to make it slightly more relevant to TS3, I very rarely use anything in the wicker section of CASt. I fucking hate wicker, digitally and IRL.
What’s something you always do when styling sims?
Much like @justanothersimsblog's answer, I try to use the Sim's favorite color in all of their outfits, whether it's a main part of their clothing or accented in an accessory or something. I don't always do this, but usually.
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
Piercings, accessory tattoos, and long hair for males. Gimme allll that.

Whose sim closet would you raid? (townie, mutual, or your own)
I'd have to go with a mutual on this one, specifically @storiesbyjes2g's sim, Melany Pierson. Mel's high-end, casual clothing style is beautiful, stylish, and also comfy. She always has on a sweater, sweatshirt, or cardigan that I'd love to steal.
What references shaped your CAS style?
My CAS style is 100% based on the character I'm creating and their personality. A more subdued character gets dressed in neutral colors like earth tones and grays. My Sims with more "colorful" personalities usually have a wardrobe to match. I also like to dress Sims in their favorite colors.
I have Sims who care about clothes and avoid wearing the same thing twice (like Dub and Tami - I typically end up CC shopping for them). I have others who aren't fashion-forward and don't mind repeating clothing (like Maia and Me-Me).
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
I tend to navigate toward earth tones and neutrals, unless the character's personality requires something different (as I said above). My least favorite would be those bright, multi-colored pattern swatches.
What’s something you always do when styling Sims?
I enter CAS and change my Sims' clothes before playing every single sim day. While in CAS, I consider my plans for the upcoming posts and try to remember to load up my household and check the weather.
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
I'll always defend and use CC curly/kinky black hair styles. I also require CC eyelashes and lip glosses. I couldn't play the game without them.
Dream CC collection?
I'd love more casual men's clothing (nice uncropped jeans, shorts, jackets, t-shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts). Although we just got a clothing collection kit for elders, I would have preferred clothing for fashionable elders.
Do your sims dress for the plot or the screenshot?
I dress them for plot - 100%. I will occasionally do a little photo shoot, but my sims are usually wearing something they'd wear in the story.

Whose sim closet would you raid? (townie, mutual, or your own)
Probably I'd raid Elena's and Marcella's closets. My style depends a lot on the day and on my mood haha sometimes I'm feeling sexy and I cool like Marcella, sometimes I just wanna dress cute and comfortable like Elena. It really depends haha
What references shaped your CAS style?
I always try to make my Sims "look the part". For example, if I'm planning on a nerdy Sim, I'm not gonna dress them like a femme fatale or something. And that doesn't mean they won't have nice clothes, they sure will, but I'll always keep asking myself "Would someone with these traits or this background really wear that?"
Favorite swatch? Least favorite swatch?
I'm a big fan of either black and darker colors, or some pastel colors. What I really hate is very bright swatches, those that hurt the eyes, like a very bright red or orange or yellow.
What’s something you always do when styling sims?
Eyelashes are a MUST! And nails. In the past I wouldn't care much about adding nails to my male sims or children, but nowadays I never forget to add them! haha For my female Sims I also like to create a "basic make-up" look for their casual, athletic, swimsuit, summer and winter outfits!
CAS item you’ll defend with your life?
Pantyhose/Stockings !!! I loooove those and I'll always find a way for my female Sims to wear them in at least one of their looks.
Dream CC collection?
To be fair I think what I'd really like is more cc collections for kids, toddlers and infants. With different themes, colors, styles... I feel like it's still kinda lacking and sometimes a bit repetitive.
Do your sims dress for the plot or the screenshot?
Both? Mostly for the plot, of course, but when we're having an important real life holiday like Halloween or Christmas or New Years, I like to dress them accordingly just for some screenshots so I can post as a little celebration of said holiday.
