Family Picture!

Context: Crowley forced a bunch of them to have a picture and call it a family potrait... The reason is to be unknown but what everyone can gather through conversation and overheard conversation is that, The headmaster wants to keep up appearances earances and picked the closest group of students in a dorm

Commentary:

The shrouds. the shroud siblings. I'm so glad I didn't draw them both kind of in a proper posture cause their clothes are A NIGHTMARE. It looks easy in a sense of shape... but the fucking detail... WHY-

but it was atleast kind of fun to maneuver when coloring and shading... just kidding I lied. I remember doing all nighther finishing this with Diasomnia.

Deathrock day at WGT

Started with Christ vs Warhol. They were amazing, really good energy, I danced through the set despite not having enough space to move.

Next one was Shrouds.

The first part of their set was really good, but we walked out when after like 3 original songs they started playing covers. The bare minimum would be to bring mostly your own material when you are playing a big international festival, isn't it? It's taking the piss.

These guys will be great, but they need to put a bit more creativity in. I dunno. Rent a little house somewhere remote, lock themselves in for a week and just jam. The fuck they have been doing for 12 years?

Next one was Lucas Lanthier. It was packed, but basically everyone still danced through it. Out of all these bands, I was least expecting a mini pit to form, but there was something about 5 meters from me.

Lucas is not easy to take good photos of, I do apologise.

Next we attempted to see Diavol Strâin, but unfortunately Moritzbastei was packed, and we got turned away. It's like a little claustrophobic maze, so no wonder.

Bit sad about it, but at least we got to stop for some food before heading back to Täubchenthal.

Next one up was Fangs on Fur. They were amazing, really good energy as well. We were knackered by this point, so chosen to go to the upstairs bit, I was sitting down for half of it, but powered through.

SUBLIME CINEMA # 707 - THE SHROUDS

Late Cronenberg has been uncompromising, uncomfortable, and decidedly uncaring of a mass audience. This is a deep dive into the director's personal obsessions and themes that have haunted him throughout his entire career. It's in a way an autobiography (frame after frame of star Vincent Cassel might confuse the viewer as to if they're seeing Cassel or Cronenberg himself), an elegiac take on the death of his wife from cancer, and how private grief is processed. It's his steeliest, coldest film since Crash, with the same stately aesthetic; the straightforward dialog, closed off modern interiors, the technology that subsumes us all, the paranoia, the fear, the death fetishism, the body dysmorphia.

There is a certain tragedy to when a respected director puts out an extremely personal and emotional film only for the movie to kinda suck. Myself being a Zack Snyder fan I've often experienced that and even come to expect it, but I wasn't expecting it of David Cronenberg's latest sci-fi jaunt "The Shrouds."

Shrouds doesn't suck, but it also does. An aggressively mid film that has evocative imagery and interesting plot devices and yet still manages to make nothing happen at all.

I get it. The Shrouds is a low budget movie whose production had to be split between multiple countries to even fund the project. But also, I counter, it would have made a much better stageplay. Mainly because nothing happens, or if it does it all happens offscreen.

It felt dry, sapped of energy, and the weird pervert filmmaker scenes you expect from Cronenberg were disjointed and far between. To be brief (and I never am) it lacked the pizzazz. It was mid!

The cast was great (guy pierce in a cardigan!!!) and the concepts were good but the movie does nothing with either. I begin to fix the movie in my head, Snyder flick style, but stop myself. Too mid to even do that.

The film creates an interesting sandbox but fails to fill the holes it digs. And it's mid.

Second to last prompt for this year's Drawtober, let's goooo! Also I'll probably post the last one right away tomorrow, since the end date for that one is Halloween, and I'm not sure if I'll have time to proofread and then post it next week. :u

Anyways, the prompt is just ghost! I decided to try doing a new spin on bedsheet ghosts. Essentially they're ghosts of people/animals who eventually deteriorate into rotting sheets that can't do much else but moan, having lost what's left of their memories and sense of self in the process. It's important to help ghosts move on from the mortal realm before this happens!! Or otherwise just forcibly exorcise them. :P
