     Something is wrong.

     The beast of thunder tosses its head and snarls, wings arching, refusing to be touched or comforted; it decides that the earth is too close and abruptly wrenches itself into the air with an unsteady wingbeat, seeking the comfort of gathering stormclouds. A hacking cough tears out of the god’s maw like a stuttered clap of thunder ( wrong, somehow ) and its twisted body lashes with discomfort—

     Shadows curl off the dragon’s pained form, darkness where there should not have been. Lightning strikes and skitters off divine scales, chasing off the foreign power in flashes of illumination that fade all too quickly.

     ( It’s a losing battle, red bleeding darker with every passing breath. )
