Hey, just wondering, have you been to any other cons before dashcon? Because a lot of the positive feedback I've seen has been from first-time congoers, and most people who have been to bigger cons are upset with how the con was run since they had a frame of reference. I'm glad dashcon was a good experience for you though when lots of people think otherwise.
Thanks for being polite :)
I’ve been to two different cons before in the last few years. I’ve been to Seattle’s Sakura Con twice and the Chicago comic con, C2E2, twice before.
DashCon was different from those cons because a lot of people knew each other already, having already talked on Tumblr, and I’ve got to tell you, at those other conventions, I barely went to a single panel. In fact, I know that I didn’t go to a single panel at C2E2 that happened earlier this year.
I went to SO many DashCon panels. I literally forgot to eat because I was having so much fun at the panels and at the dealer’s room and talking with all the wonderful people that were there :)
C2E2 I know has been around for a quite a few years and has a huge budget so it’s pretty organized. Sakura Con is a decently sized convention as well but there were quite a few mishaps during that convention - panels and photo shoots cancelled because people didn’t show, lots of problems with electrical things in the panels, and some fights between the con goers.
I can say, at least by what I saw and from all the people I’ve asked, there were no fights or arguments at DashCon. It was DashCon’s first year, so yes, there were a few trip-ups, but it’s a learning experience and next year we’re all going to work even harder to make it better :)
