If you guessed a single person you're wrong! This is a song for/about Saori and Imogen Yahola.
Or...no...
It's really a song for this thread, see? More or less. So, you know, the song's really about...well, there's no rule against songs for names that aren't anymore, is there?
The theme I was working with here was "a main melody that's caged within the confines of a single octave" - from A# to the next A# up here - "until the point at which it breaks free". Which is basically what I ended up doing. The main melody's split between two different variations requiring two different types of harmonic accompaniment, but it's still two different types of cage. Two separate situations that are more alike than different. That's where I'm going here.
And...I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say, so I'll leave it there, yeah? I'm going to stick around to see who's dead and then it's back to work with me. Finishing and publishing songs for solo piano is one thing, but when is this amateur going to learn how to write acceptable percussion parts...who knows...
(Album art is by Bee! And I'm very glad it exists.)
“It’s good to see you again. I hope you’ve been well.”
I wish these two interacted more. Saori was an absolute sweetheart with a sense of logic Hikaru admired. Most of Hikaru’s observations of Saori were during trials and she did not disappoint. The information she brought forward was well thought out and communicated in a concise manner fitting of her title. Hikaru had an unspoken respect her during their time together in the game.
He also couldn’t help but wonder how long it took her to get ready in the morning with her outfit and hair.
When the gunshots struck the floor right beside her Hikaru did not hesitate to get her the hell out of there. Seriously it’s the first time Hikaru did something selfless during the entire game. Saori (as well as Shun’s violent reaction) brought that side out in him and I’m so THANKFUL it happened.
Takumi really respected Saori, cause she was always working for everyone else and trying to keep hope alive and keep everyone strong, even to her own detriment.
Takumi never really got to speak with her (hell I don't think they were ever in a thread together, I can't remember), so he never really got to make much of an opinion beyond "wow what a great kid I hope she lives forever"
...up until she made the choice to leave.
He got REAL angry at that point.
...and then she decided to stay, which eased his opinion somewhat, but the respect still took a dive after the initial choice.
But considering they were together when they were letting Yasuda out, I can only assume they talked somehow during the timeskip (Tartarus, probably) and Takumi could actually say "hello" for once, who even knows
Naori was hella jealous of Saori! Really, though, she tried to pour all of her energy into the murders and getting out of Gaia, so it wasn’t something she expressed much outwardly. She was aware of the fact that Saori was also doing a ton of digging and always brought her A game in trials, so she wasn’t going to do anything to make her feel shitty if it meant that it would impact their chances of leaving. :Y
UUUUuuuuuUUUhhHHHhHHHh but no long story short she was just really envious of how Saori always seemed to be really pure? Like nothing could ever get under her skin or make her less sweet, and how she was like the Ideal Person? And it just drove Naori nuts deep down because not only was Saori really nice but she was also smart as heck!
A lot of it has to do with her history and the enjo kosai stuff and this would get kind of long if I went into it buT SUFFICE TO SAY when she thought of Saori a big part of her wished she could have a do-over for her life :^/
That kinda went away a little over time though for different reasons?? Plus she knows how hard she worked to get out and how much she contributed so!! You go Saori hell ye B)

"At least tell me next time you go let lunatics out of their cages, would you? If something… I thought you tripped over an uzi and died.”
Shay loves Saori
in the least sexual way possible. hahahaha jokes on you shippers don’t think I don’t see you squatting there
and now i’m going to review the full extent of the reason why because i love
At first he was just intrigued by her just for the idea that she was basically profit on legs - Saori was exotic, people paid for the privilege of just seeing her, she was modestly impressed by him and what he did, and she consented to help him sell shit once they got out. It was sunshine and roses and nobody wanted to dig and they found a radio with shitty music and she and kozure defended him from the anonymous vote during the second case and life was good
and then she had to make it weird. … aka. she came into his room and tried to pry secrets out of him in the name of friendship. That was sort of foreign to him, since nobody’s really asked him about him, just the products he sells and shit and also they were in a mutual killing game so he just got really defensive about that
but then she told him her actual name and in the name of equivalent exchange he opted to trust her a bit and told her a bit about the accident when he lost his arm in a really roundabout way
and then he killed takumi and got away with it (thanks shay) and was just kind of up that night unable to sleep like “what the fuck is my life” when saori slipped a note under his door, thus spawning a ritual that continued for like the rest of the game
but it wasn’t until after the merge when the despair fever came into play that he realized that he was Actually Investedsince icl-y due to the nature of the illness and how saori was acting he was like 90% sure she was the one who killed Nanoka so brutally and he was on the defense ready to shoot down anyone who tried to accuse her on that basis
but then no one with the illness was the culprit and gei spoke up on her behalf so he was there like
oh
shit
and then after that it was just kind of a series of little things and she offered to make him coffee but he made her orange kool aid instead and then kaoru died but instead of just isolating herself completely she went to sit by him instead with her bloody hands and after she’d been doing so much for everyone else he felt a need to do something
so he bandaged her hands and walked her back to her room and snuck out when he said he’d go to bed (thanks shay)
this all cumulated with vaguely threatening under-the-door notes which shay mistook for a suicide note so he was like HELL NO and probably would have skeleton key’d her door if she hadn’t replied quickly
and then after all that she came in and laughed at him and he was genuinely mad but she thanked him and he was just
done
which is why he reacted the way he did when she said she wanted to stay with him
on a venture that he was fine with dying on, because with how the state of the country was explained to him, if he didn’t take the risk he’d probably be dead or go mad waiting for it anyway
saori prevented that line of thinking because she was willing to lay her life on the line to stay with him when no one would have ever before and
wow
social link rank 10 congratulations you’re winner
i’m sorry i just love their dynamic so much it makes me happy i’m going to go sit at another lunch table now bye
Kosuke had a very protective relationship with Saori, trying to act like his brother would have to him. After Saori picked his spirits up following the prologue, he viewed her as a light that could help him and others through the game. He wanted to protect this light at all costs.
Towards the end of the game, especially while they were making the decision to leave or not, Kosuke was worried that Saori had put him on a pedestal, a place he did not feel like he belonged (Of course, Kosuke had done the exact same thing to her and did not view it as wrong in the slightest). But, all things considered, he wanted her to live to bring light into the lives of others as Japan continued to go through its dark period, one of the reasons he was so adamant she leave.
Even though they haven't really talked outside of the trial room, Rune thinks Saori seems fairly kind!! (I say seems because Rune tries not to take people at face-value due to the way he's been treated by his peers in the past.) And actually, he's probably a bit envious of her!!
Not in a way that he'd act on or do anything with, but from what he's heard, Saori manages to be useful in trials very often and even helped with pinning down the masterminds, and Rune has... he's always wanted to be able to help people. In the game, he had no goals or real drive to get out. As long as he could be of some use by supporting or helping someone, he was... relatively okay.
And Saori managed to do that so often that it was both awe-inspiring and a source of mild jealousy to him. (Thanks Rune. you've never even spoken to her)
Despite that!! He's happy she never had to face death. He's happy that the group had a seemingly kind person like her to assist them during the course of the game. But other than that?? He doesn't really have much of an opinion.
