The trick to starting a Blue Dragon New Game Plus play-through is Accessories. They do come back with you. They are not Equipped. You need to put them on before Shu faces the Land Shark. Otherwise your Shu will simply die.

Karume is a Shinigami, specifically she was Boton's mentor and has spent quite a while hinting demons during Genki's prelude into retirement. Her skills are unmatched by Shinigami - because they rarely fight as is - and she can hold her own against most C and B rank demons. Koenma (Jr.) recently reassigned her to watch over the main crew since there's now 7 people - 3 of whom are demons - under Boton's care.

However, Shu doesn't care about any of that because all he sees is a pretty woman.

After coming out to Rose, Shane decides he doesn't want to lie anymore, even if he isn't sure coming out will mean he gets happily ever after with Ilya. When coming out to the Voyageurs leaves him wondering what his future in Montreal might look like, he lets himself be a little selfish, he lets himself wonder if there might be somewhere else he might be happy. If Montreal wants to get rid of a generational player, he's not about to stop them, especially if it means he can get a little closer to joy.
