Here's my avatarsona Shuen, who is not an avatar but an an airbender born to the head of the Treasurer of a province in the Fire Nation. Born during the latter half of the Kyoshi Era, he was told that his mother died during his birth. After years of being a disappointment to his father for not being able to create even a spark, he is sent to a soldier camp, where he learnt that while he could not start a fire, he could enlarge and direct it to a certain extent. He created gloves to help him handle fire.

As a child, whenever his father had meetings with other nations, the children of the other leaders were grouped together. This childhood friend group consisted of Shuen, Ruhong (the son of a Fire Nation premier), Kura (Earth Kingdom girl), and a Northern Water Tribe girl. No Air Nation child was brought, only a monk that looks at Shuen with a hint of familiarity.

The friendship broke down over time just because of lack of interaction as they grew up, but even more so between Shuen and Ruhong. On the day of his coming of age ceremony, Ruhong chose to agni kai against Shuen to prove his worth, thinking that Shuen's lack of fighting ability would only make him look more powerful. However, Shuen decided to try his hand at his new gadget, catching Ruhong off guard and burning the side of Ruhong's handsome face. From that day on, Ruhong became resolved to take revenge on Shuen.

Disgusted by how Shuen disgraced the son of his boss, Shuen's father immediately kicked him out of the house. So he left, bringing a chest, the only item left to him from his mother, to carry some of his belongings, and set off to the Earth Kingdom, specifically the outer ring of Ba Sing Se.

Managing to become an assistant to a mechanic specialized in making prosthetics (like in FMA), he learns about his mother's air nomad heritage from a journal hidden in the chest and finds a father in the mechanic.

They plot to learn more about Shuen's mother by trying to find the air nomad monk that seems to find his face familiar all those days ago during those meetings. They break into one of these meetings, learning that war may be brewing with Ruhong's rage and desire to prove himself and making contact with both Kura and and the monk. On the monk's sky bison, Kura, the mechanic, and Shuen escape to learn more but Shuen's mother's past.

At some point in the adventures, Kura, similarly to Katara as the Painted Lady, dressed up an onion spirit, but I honestly don't remember why.

Military mechs tend to have consistent builds because parts are bought in bulk and most of the pilots don't have the funds or mental energy to get a special gun and explain why they deserve to be the army's Special-est Lil' Guy.

Mercenary mechs have more variety since mercenary companies are usually not buying in bulk since they will kludge together damaged mechs to save money, and more experienced mercenary pilots customize to their liking.

Low-ranked rookies sometimes have disaster builds barely duct-taped together into a functional mech.

But sometimes experienced pilots run Discount Dan's Disaster Builds out of boredom, to hide their identity, or to flex on the egomaniacal newbies who claim the top level guys are only good because they have sucked their handler's dick enough to get an expensive build.

My characters were a little too slick for how much bullshit they get into.

Temir is also missing a couple molars from never visiting the dentist and the army yanked them out with his wisdom teeth.

Apparently the army does not want you to have wisdom teeth surgery during something important, so the teeth must be yeet early on.

The barracks are co-ed. Mostly for cost-cutting reasons.

Temir's favorite animal is roly polies and isopods in general.

Kergat gets him isopod stuff sometimes to help him to stay mentally grounded.

Lieutenant Washburn: Specialist Kergat, did you use the 3D printer for army-related reasons?

Kergat: Yes. It keeps my pilot calm.
