[This story, which I have spent a very long time on, is about Shun struggling to confess his love to Yuto. Initially it was suppose to be a short post between Ruri and Shun but it grew from that.
It’s painful but it’s also interesting because I can explore these boys’ inner thoughts and feelings and what the confession would have been like.
Even if you don’t ship this ship please read this.
Please enjoy this story ^_^]
Shun: Yuto…I love you. I have for a very long time. When I’m near you–wh–when I’m near you my heart dies from joy.
Ruri: good! Now go and tell him.
Shun: ……………
Ruri: he’s right there. Say everything you just said right now. You can do it.
Shun: what if I freak him out?
Ruri: you won’t freak him out.
Shun: ……I can’t do it. I can’t. I’m leaving.
Ruri: Shun!! You can’t go!
‘You can’t go!’
At the time Shun didn’t have the courage to tell his best friend how he felt. There were too many ‘what ifs.’ There was too much fear of words unknown.
One day Yuto was spending time in the garden. Flowers were being tended to by his delicate hand. Watching Yuto handle those flowers, watching him work with utmost happiness had reminded Shun of why he needed to confess so badly. He wanted to be with this boy–this wonderful friend who was always by his side–forever.
In this moment Shun had found the courage to confess.
Although his heart was racing and he felt himself become numb with every step, Shun continued to walk towards Yuto.
He gulped involuntarily; such anticipation, such worry.
He stood in silence with his gaze fixed on Yuto but his thoughts wandering towards fear, worry and uncertainty.
Rejection.
Destruction of friendship.
Shun fears that this confession will break the lovely relationship that they have.
“JUST DO IT!!” is what Ruri yelled at him when he talked about how much he loved Yuto and what he loved about him, but whined at his inability to confess.
“Yuto.”
There goes the first step. Yuto’s gaze was drawn from the flowers. He acknowledged Shun’s presence with a simple response.
“Yes?”
“……………” Shun is hesitant. The words are at the tip of his tongue.
“I…..um……”
That fear is eating away at his confidence. It’s causing him internal panic.
“I….”
Yuto asks, “are you okay?” He’s mildly concerned.
Shun wants to push those words out but what will happen if he does? What will Yuto think? What will he say?
'I love him and I want him to know.’
“I love you.”
He’s finally said the magic words.
He’s finally, for the love of god, he’s finally gotten those words out!!!
He feels relieved for a moment until Yuto starts chuckling.
“I love you too, Shun.”
Wait, what?
There’s a smile and the way Yuto speaks–his attitude is almost like a dismissal! He’s acting like Shun didn’t mean it seriously.
Shun stands there shocked and clueless. He wants to give up. He wants to say no more and leave.
It’s just like that party night at Uncle Kaito’s, when some guy wouldn’t leave Yuto alone. Shun yanked his best friend away.
“That guy is no good. You don’t need anyone like him.”
Yuto pulled away from Shun with all the frustration and anger he had been keeping that week. Yuto…he yelled at Shun for being protective.
“Anyone like him? Maybe I don’t need anyone at all!”
“I’m keeping you safe and out of harm’s way. I’m trying to keep you from suffering with a broken heart!” is what Shun told him. He didn’t say “because I love you and want you for myself.” He almost did, though. He almost spoke those words.
For this moment to drag him back to that memory…
It was like ten seconds of hell.
'I can’t give up. I’ve come this far.’
“No, Yuto. I truly love you.”
“….”
Yuto doesn’t know how to respond. He’s frozen, wide-eyed and blushing.
Shun sighs deeply. There’s only one way to get this confession over with.
He kneels down and puts his hand under Yuto’s chin. He says those magic words once again {I love you} before he gives his former-best-friend-now-possibly-boyfriend a soft kiss.
When it’s over, Yuto is still frozen. He feels like his heart has ceased to beat. He’s fluttering, panicking and crying all at the same time.
Yuto wipes his eyes of any tears. He thinks ‘I should’ve seen this coming.’
Yuto wants to tell Shun what he wants to hear. He wants Shun to smile and not look so hesitant but…he can’t.
Instead he wraps his arms around Shun for a comforting hug.
“Yuto?”
Shun wants an answer but there’s nothing on Yuto’s end. Silence is all he can give him.
Ruri, who watched from the inside, thought something good was happening. Oh how wrong she was.
“Yuto? Please say something.”
There’s so much pressure.
'I feel the same way but…I’m not ready. Why can’t we be friends?’
Yuto’s thoughts don’t reach his lips.
'I’ve never had this happen to me.’
He’s confused and conflicted.
Yuto hugged Shun tighter as he poured all of his feelings–and tears–into him.
“Everything is confusing right now.”
Sobbing makes it hard for Yuto to talk and breathe.
Shun comforts him by shushing and patting his back.
“I’m sorry, Shun. I I wish I could give you a concrete answer but…”
“Shhhhh. It’s alright, Yuto. I only wanted to let you know how I felt.”
Liar.
Shun wanted Yuto to say “I feel the same way and I love you too.” Then they could happily be boyfriends together.
Things didn’t work out that way.
For the next week Shun and Yuto had awkward interactions. In mornings and nights they spoke to each other in awkward one-liners.
Yuto would say without looking up, “hey.”
Shun would respond (rather blandly), “hey.”
Sometimes Yuto would respond “hi.”
At school they had to sit by each other or Ruri would start asking questions. Especially during eating time with the other students. However, sitting together in silence had the same effect as sitting apart. It sparked Ruri’s concern.
Walking home together, side by side, gave them both a warm feeling. The shimmering sunset made them feel like this moment was the saving grace of their friendship. Day after day, the same path, the same walk and the same colors cast by the setting sun.
Ruri would always spark a conversation and they would all talk like normal. Yuto even blushed this time when Shun laughed at one of his jokes.
Ruri saw it and joked about it.
“Yuto’s getting blushy. Yuto’s getting blushy!!”
Moments like those were cherished.
That night Yuto and Shun finally spoke. Ruri was asleep and the two boys were in agonizing pain. Silently they debated internally about speaking to the other.
Yuto hugged his pillow while Shun tossed and turned.
'I should tell him I’m sorry.’ Is what Shun thought but he made no move.
'I really do like him but what would everyone else think?’ were Yuto’s thoughts.
“Yuto…”
Shun waits for a response. Yuto hugs his pillow tighter. He swallows and answers. “Yes?”
“I’m sorry about that confession.” Said Shun.
“Don’t be. I actually love you too.”
There was more silence until Yuto went to Shun and laid under his arms. Shun was surprised but embraced Yuto by holding him close. Yuto’s move was like a silent message of love to Shun.
Things were alright after that. Shun and Yuto were speaking like bros again (with the addition of hugs and kisses). Sometimes things would get awkward. It would always end with one of them blushing.
They lived in each other’s love and Ruri never let them forget.
Life was grand.
Even when the first bombs went off and Academia claimed their hold over the land with their machines; love never wavered.
However, it became painful to be in love during the war. To see one suffer and hardly listen to what you say; to see them slowly become stripped of their morals was too painful.
Shun lost his happiness.
Yuto’s depression and anger weighed him down.
Ruri lost a small percentage of her optimism with each passing day.
War? War never changes. It only changes the people it affects.
In the present Shun is alone and without the boy he loves and the girl he cared for all his life.
He still remembers that confession, all the way down to the last agonizing second of waiting for Yuto to say “I love you too.”
I’ve got plans. Big plans. Shippers, get your hearts ready.
If you’ve read my last post about the Fanfic Drive, this post goes into more detail about it!
Basically, the ShunYuto Fanfic Drive is a 2-day event from November 20-21 where you post short fanfics based on five single-word/basic prompts (the prompts are below the cut). Since this is a small event there are only five prompts. If you do not like the prompts you can still write a ShunYuto story about anything. The fanfics are suppose to be written for someone who you know loves ShunYuto. It’s is a friendship event and is meant to spread the love of ShunYuto and make your friends/ship mates smile to see their favorite ship. You can submit your fanfics to this blog or tag them shunyuto fanfic drive and they will be reblogged here.
Now it’s time for the prompts!
ALIEN HUNTING!: Shun and Yuto are marooned on an alien planet. What better thing to do than go alien hunting?
Love Under the Cherry Blossoms: any story with this prompt has to take place under a Sakura tree.
Rock Band: the title is self explanatory.
Detention: what would happen if Shun or Yuto had to go to detention? What did they get in trouble for?
Party Crashers: Shun and Yuto crash Mr. Heartland’s party. What kind of trouble do the boys cause?
I apologize if the prompts are less than stellar. If the event goes well, two more prompts will be released on the second day (five were initially planned but two more won’t hurt). Again, there is no need for you to use the prompts for your fic. Don’t forget to tag it with the right tag and dedicate it to that special friend!
Remember, the fics have to be short.
If you’re wondering why this event is called ShunYuto fanfic drive and not Darkrebel or Trashbag fanfic drive, it’s because people call this ship two different names so ShunYuto is a neutral name [also the Japanese fandom uses mush names]. I will not have people divided in this event by its name, so I used ShunYuto.
I hope to see at least three fics in the tags. Have fun everyone and don’t forget to egao!
shunyuuya + shunyuuto mundane japanese american au; tfw your brother brings home a hottie from college and this really wasn't what you asked for
For Thanksgiving, Yuto brings home a person.
Yuto has never been very good at presents, but this one is probably the worst. When Yuya said to bring something back from college, he had a sweatshirt or a scarf in mind, something he could wear to school and maybe show off like "hey, bet your brother didn't get into UC Heartland." What Yuya didn't mean was a person—especially not the legal adult currently in their foyer, standing at six-foot-two and decked with dark jeans, a maroon shirt, a scarf, and the face of an angel.
i know the most probable reading for yuuto's appearance is shun's saying "our hometown" and the memories of camaraderie and love and pain of heartland stirring inside yuuya because of what reiji's saying and, you know, the field
but if you put on your shipping shutter shades you can pretend that yuuto appeared because reiji is being a different dimension douche to shun, specifically, And I Think That's Beautiful
