Hi Yuu! I would like to know your opinion on the future dilemma concerning Zoro's sword, Shuusui: do you think he will keep it? Or will he give back to the people of Wa, as required by Kinemon?
This is just my prediction because no one can really predict which direction Oda will turn the storyline to. But, no, I don’t think Zoro will give back the sword or even concern about that. The sword already chose him.
I mean… this can be a little over imagined that me… used to think Zoro treats or thinks of his sword not like “thing” but “lively objects which have soul”. With every sword he touches he will “mind-speak” to it, ask for if it wants to enjoy the battle with him. He met many swords in his life, they must come in 2 way, temporary and soulmate (for those he always carries on the side). Shuusui is one of Zoro’s soulmates, he won it, won its soul, conquered it, had it become good hin his hands, follow his skill, his fighting style. Zoro had Shuusui accepted him to be its master.
Every swords came to Zoro with a little story I could imagine, wado accepted him after he promised that he would continue and succeed Kuina’s ambition. Sandai might feel the greenhair man has a demon soul and brave like itself to made a sword test. Yubashiri was a gift but I think since it came from the same sword shop with Sandai, it might admire Zoro after seeing his sword test with Sandai too. Shuusui is the hardest one, but true a challenge to Zoro, the swordman had gone through a serious battle with the sword and its old master. So the time Shuusui fell in Zoro’s hands, they must have some unsound words to each other, I think the black sword had agreed to be in Zoro hands, to have him its new master.
They have been through many battle with each others, true soulmate, it would be nonsense if Zoro give the sword back just because some weird samurai come at him and say “hey, that’s my national treasure.”
The most logical way I can think about is when the time comes, Zoro will ask the sword, if it wants to continue following him, fight with him or wants to be back with its country, because the swordman treat his swords like soulmates, so it will be up to the sword’s will.
But my prediction is, the sword will choose to stay with Zoro.
