It was not so often that the once Pharaoh came across people who simply felt fundamentally out of place in the world; Bakura and Marik had perhaps been the last; Bakura (much like Atem) being a soul locked within an item, whilst Marik had been something else entirely. Something as tragic as he was dangerous, inflicted quite inadvertently by Atem himself if one were to put any real thought into it.
This individual fell somewhere into that category; or if he didn’t he was simply unnerving to a degree Atem could not quite begin to articulate. It was strange, just as it was unwelcome. “You look out of place. Are you lost?” The question was, expectedly, neutral. A safe brook to measure reaction.
