*Kiss kiss fall inlove plays in the bg*
yugioh asks? so idk if you've read the battle city arc or seen the anime but i like to try to convince people that malik is worse than y. marik because he did all the worst things without the influence of his darker personality. kidnapping and running a criminal organization and planning to kill someone... yami marik's just here to have a good time, he doesn't know the difference. but malik gets to blame his evil on his yami. what do u think?
(OH GEEZ WE’RE GETTIN’ INTO IT LMAO)
I have seen the anime (it’s been awhile since I watched season 2 though, so I might be rusty), but not there yet in the manga. Okay this ended up a little long, but this is a very interesting question.
I guess this boils down to how much of regular Malik’s evil behavior you blame on Yami Malik’s presence/influence throughout that part of his life. What I mean by that is, whether you believe those actions/ideas were entirely Malik’s own, or if having Yami Malik’s sadistic presence inside his head/soul exerted some influence on what he did from the point YMalik manifested forward.
Some people attribute Malik’s rapid 180 in personality post-Battle City to Malik being freed of Yami Malik and therefore reverting to his “original” personality he had as a child. Some people attribute it to him being shaken by seeing the actual effects his actions have/losing his body/almost losing his brother and therefore becoming remorseful from that point forward.
I personally fall somewhere in the middle. I don’t think Malik was just immediately “fixed” by being separated from YMalik or that Malik was just an innocent soul possessed by an evil spirit. I don’t like it when people try to paint the situation that way. (After all, YMalik was born from his bitterness, pain, and hatred. YMalik isn’t a ghost the way Atem and Bakura are. He never had a life of his own. He is composed entirely of Malik’s emotions and motivations.)
But, I do also think that Yami Malik’s existence probably exerted some sort of influence on him or, if nothing else, acted as a magnifier for those emotions. And I’m not sure I’m comfortable saying YMalik doesn’t know the difference between right or wrong, or going so far as saying that absolves him of being bad. Yeah, he’s just going through with Malik’s plans because it’s what he knows, but I think he does, at least on some level, understand that what he’s doing is wrong. He just doesn’t care. He is incredibly sadistic and takes genuine pleasure in hurting people.
To sum all this rambling up, I guess you have to decide whether you think Malik is a product of YMalik or if YMalik is a product of Malik. Did YMalik’s sadism make Malik act like he did or did Malik’s anger entirely create YMalik’s personality? How much independent thought did YMalik have (especially before they were separated)? Or was he just a split personality that acted on Malik’s darkest desires?
I personally sort of fall somewhere in the middle and think they fed off of each other’s anger and hatred. Malik, however, had a personality that existed before YMalik’s existence and that gave him a foothold to work towards remorse and reparation for his actions.
Which is worse than the other? I’m not sure. Yami Malik and his remorseless sadism definitely scared me more, but I can see the validity in saying that Malik and his conscious choices to do wrong could be worse.

as always, being a kiss ass that i am, @tounan is the start of the list. i love their kura, i love our shitty thieves being assholes together on skype. i love talking to you every day. they’re aesthetically perfect.<3
@shxdowmonarch was technically the first person i followed when i made this blog and oh my god i don’t regret it. her mariku is absolutely perfect and always makes me laugh. nikki is extremely funny and sweet, i enjoy seeing her on the dash. #teamsamevoice
as problematic and annoying as @blue-eyes-white-kaiba, i adore their interpretation of him. Liz is by far one of my favourite Kaiba’s, they’re fun to pick on and to interact with, because like liz, kaiba’s one giant fucking meme.

feeling the extra weight against him, he glances over, spotting the male with a book. gently, he leans back against mariku and rests his head on his shoulder. “ Hmm . . . What are you reading ? “

“For a shadow, you’re cast pretty thin,” Bakura commented, leaning back against the kitchen counter and studying Mariku with a coppery gaze. Metallic, but pitying. He thumbed the Millennium Ring, the tines creating a pretty sound as he drew attention to it. “You need something like this, huh? Give you some real bite?”
He dropped the ring against his chest, flicking a strand of hair back over his shoulder. “Too bad for you.”
