Fans of my audio drama The Strange Case of Starship Iris, my Les Mis fic World Ain’t Ready, or queer yearning underscored by banter in general will love You Pierce My Soul, my new far-future dystopian romance about two teen girls who must work together to defy an algorithm that pairs everyone off with their soulmate. The book comes out May 5th (and is available for preorder) but for a limited time you can enter to win a package that includes an ARC right now!
Besides the paperback You Pierce My Soul, you’ll also receive a hardcover of my last YA novel, Stars Hide Your Fires, a sci-fi mystery where a cynical thief must partner with a mysterious revolutionary to solve a murder at a ball in an opulent palace space station. Plus two pins, and three adorable book-themed bookmarks I made by hand!

so, my sci-fi mystery novel, Stars, Hide Your Fires tells the story of a cynical thief who gets backed into investigating the emperor's murder, along with a mysterious, beautiful stranger—in space.
it has humor and intrigue and queer disaster characters and fun worldbuilding and sing-alongs and social commentary and—i have been told—the correct amount of spiders. it is a young adult novel with some cussing, suitable for anyone 13 and up.
it came out July 2023, but Quirk Books has decided go out on a limb for me and issue a paperback. the paperback comes out tomorrow (July 2)! you can preorder it right now!
why you might want to buy a copy of Stars, Hide Your Fires
it got great reviews, including a starred review from Publishers Weekly, as well as a nomination for a Foreword INDIES Young Adult award, and it got selected for the 2024 Hal Clement Notable Young Adult Books List!
Author Dahlia Adler says, “A delightfully mischievous adventure full of intrigue, betrayal, and a touch of romance. Get ready to join your new favorite rebel crew.”

Hello hello! i've been following you for a long time etc etc, big fan etc (I'm sure you've heard it all before), congratulations on your second book!! I hope I'm not too late but no worries if you've already closed this, take it as a message of loving encouragement!!
I preordered a little while ago (20th April) so hopefully this still works.
I also preordered stars hide your fires all those years back but somehow only very recently got to reading it. I loved it so much, perhaps due in part to the shared name, but I have a feeling even if I weren't also a Cass who goes by Cassie I would still love it all the same. I especially loved this line: "There's rebels everywhere, Cass. Ideas know no borders, as they say, and that's all it takes to get to us: an idea."
As someone who does activist-aligned academia, in a place where activism is frowned upon, it touched me very much. Almost as if it reached out and spoke to me, Cass, personally hahaha
Anyway! Thank you again for writing stars hide your fires. I look forward to you pierce my soul, and any of your future work!
If you're able to (I'm not sure if you have any concerns about writing fic of your own work), any outtakes from stars hide your fires would be amazing. Anything post-story about Cass and Amaris, especially.
Thank you again, have a lovely day, and again, congratulations 🧡
hi! thank you for this lovely note, and thank you for preordering the new book! i'm touched that you requested more of Stars, Hide Your Fires.
putting this under a cut bc it's got spoilers:
“Okay.” I hum, scanning the crowd before us. “See the woman with the rotating hat and the purple and gold fan? I’m gonna go lift her wallet.”
“No, you won’t,” says Amaris firmly.
We’re sitting in the shade of Sarn’s brand-new community center, sipping on citrussy iced tea, because Amaris can’t stomach a bottle of grunk any more than—well, any more than I can.
A lot of changes are headed Sarn’s way. For now, though, the waves of entitled tourists remain much the same.
“Why not?” I ask her. “I was watching earlier—she’s rich enough to have a full staff and awful enough to scream at them for nothing. Besides, any proceed can go straight into the campaign of whichever do-gooder politician you wish. It will be a public service theft. A heist of civic duty.”
Amaris takes another sip of tea and shakes her head. “Cass,” she says. “Come on.”
“What?” I frown. “Don’t tell me the Voyria fund themselves entirely on charity and cookie sales.”
“I don’t have any ethical issue with you stealing from her,” says Amaris, and something in me quiets, just a little. “But you’re on vacation. Take a breath. Rest means rest.”
“My fingers are getting itchy,” I mutter.
Amaris reaches over and takes my hand in hers. “Better?”
psst! attention people interested in attempted space heists-turned-space murder investigations featuring a snarky pickpocket and a mysterious undercover operative who just miiiight kiss, about which #1 New York Times best-selling author Rachael Lippincott said, "With lush worldbuilding, high stakes, and a page-turning mystery, Stars Hide Your Fires is impossible to put down"—
the ebook of my YA sci-fi mystery Stars, Hide Your Fires is currently available, and I mean right now, for just 1.99 US dollars. you can get it at that price for the rest of this current week. it's normally like $12.99 so this is a very good deal!
one might, if one was a jewel thief, even go so far as to call it a "steal" ;)
my mom: hey, you should give one of your advance copies of your novel to the neighborhood library so that you'll know they have at least one copy once the book's out
me: hang on, let me look it up just in case they already ordered one, wouldn't that be cool, haha
they, uh.
they preordered 21 copies.
granted, it's the entire library system for a large city area (ETA: and for towns kind of vaguely surrounding that), but still!
