While the player only needs to complete a small portion of each areas challenges to read the end of Rex: Another Island, the game has an incredible degree of depth, and many mechanics in place that ensure that exploration is rewarding without feeling too simplistic. Perhaps the most important of these is the checkpoint system, which in addition to saving the player’s game, must also be reached in order to complete the collection of any recently acquired tokens. Getting hurt and respawning before reaching one of these checkpoints will cause the collectibles to return to their original locations, an aggravation alleviated by the sheer volume of checkpoints placed throughout each area, along with the many shortcuts the player can open up to get back to them faster.
