Atemu did NOT want to do his lessons today.

For several weeks now, his father has been having him sit with a bunch of strange adults he’s never met before, to teach him all sorts of things he did not care about. He was just a little kid, barely old enough to even speak properly without a lisp or missing letters, he didn’t want to learn how to read the pictures and carvings on the walls, or how to run a country!

So, he decided, he wasn’t going to do any of that!

No, he was going to hide until the lessons were over and his father figured that he didn’t need them

But... where could Atemu hide?!

The guards were all over the place, as they usually were, priests and officials wandered the halls just as often as the servants did, everyone would see him and rat him out to his father or those strange people!

The little boy quietly walked in the courtyard, which, surprisingly, wasn’t busy as it usually was. Then again, it was mid morning, and everyone was doing their jobs.

Which meant that Atemu was alone. But he couldn’t just stay here! Someone would see him!

Panicking, Atemu looked around, large, crimson eyes spotting a large vase that was used for decoration. Perfect! It was big enough to hold him and totally hide him! Grinning, he ran over, struggled to get in, before falling inside with a loud huff. Well, that hurt, but he was inside! No one would find him and he wouldn’t have to do any of those dumb lessons.

The perfect plan.

Siamun was fretting loudly as he walked the halls of the palace, trying to find that familiar fluff of tri-colored hair that he knew belonged to his beloved prince!

Atemu hadn’t been in his chambers, nor that of Mahado’s when Siamun came to get him for his lessons, where could the crowned prince be???

He looked in the kitchens, since Atemu liked to bother the servants for apples and dates (and they always gave in because he was so cute and he liked to try to help them), but he wasn’t there. He tried the guardens, but didn’t see or hear him there. The grand mural room, where the prince liked to look at the pictures was empty, and the guards at the gates to the palace said they didn’t see him at all that morning, since Atemu would like to go and talk to them when he got the chance.

Anyone he spoke to either said he wasn’t seen by them, or he had been and he had been running about.

No one gave him any solid advice, except a young servant girl said that she had seen the boy heading for the courtyard, but she didn’t see him after that.

So, with quick feet, and a worry that he was too old for this, Siamun made his way to the courtyard, finding it rather empty. Hmm... no sign of the prince anywhere...

“Chu!”

Oh! A tiny sneeze, like that of a kitten, that sounded just like the prince. But where did it come from?

Plum eyes settled on a large vase, bigger than the others in the yard. Maybe...

He approached, peering inside, finding the boy, curled up in his sleep. Siamun smiled, oh dear, he didn’t have the heart to wake up the little one. He decided to just let him rest, they could do the lessons tomorrow. He was sure the pharaoh wouldn’t mind.
