Experience a fusion of flavors with this Sichuan-inspired twist on the classic BLT. Crispy Chinese five spice bacon pairs harmoniously with the tangy fried green tomatoes, all enveloped in the richness of Sichuan chili oil-infused mayonnaise. It's a delightful combination of textures and tastes that will tantalize your taste buds.
Ingredients: 8 slices thick-cut bacon. 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder. 2 green tomatoes, sliced. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup cornmeal. 1 teaspoon salt. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. 2 large eggs, beaten. 4 slices sandwich bread. 1/4 cup mayonnaise. 2 tablespoons Sichuan chili oil. 4 leaves lettuce. 8 slices ripe tomato. 8 slices cooked bacon.
Instructions: Warm the oven up to 190C 375F. Put bacon slices on a baking sheet that has parchment paper on it. Put five spice powder from China on top of the bacon slices. After 20 to 25 minutes, the food will be crispy. In the meantime, get the green tomatoes ready to be fried: Salt and black pepper should be mixed together in a shallow dish. Dip slices of green tomato in beaten eggs, then coat in the flour mix. Put oil in a pan and set it over medium-low heat. Fry tomato slices for about 34 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown. Take it off and let it dry on paper towels. Toast the pieces of bread until they turn golden brown. Toast the bread slices and put mayonnaise on one side of each one. Put Sichuan chili oil on top of the mayonnaise. Put the sandwiches together: There should be four pieces of bread. On each slice, put lettuce leaves, ripe tomato slices, fried green tomatoes, and cooked bacon. Add the last few slices of bread, mayo side down. Cut the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve.
