Prompt: Post-S5, Allura is back at the Galra headquarters to look at more of Lotor's research. She finds herself wanting to see more of the strangely-absent new emperor, who has sequestered himself to hide the fact that he's come down sick and is feeling absolutely miserable. Obvs she finds out and wants to help him.
“How interesting. Lotor sure knows a lot about quintessence, far more than I do.” Allura said, taking a tour of Lotor’s research laboratory guided by Lotor’s trusted research assistant.
“The Prince has dedicated a lot of his time to his research. He is rather passionate.” The assistant replied.
“I can tell. Also, where is Lotor? Usually he brings me around whenever I visit.” Allura wondered. She had expected Lotor to be awaiting her arrival, but to her slight disappointment, he was not there.
“He said he’s been rather busy. He’s been in his room for the past two days not eating anything. He also won’t let anyone in his room. I wonder what he’s working on..” his assistant said, sounding worried.
“Oh. Then could you show me to his room? I’m sure he won’t refuse my visit.” Allura asked.
With slight hesitation, the assistant brought Allura up to Lotor’s personal room before leaving her side to allow her to speak with Lotor privately.
Allura knocked on the door lightly, saying, “Lotor! It’s Allura. May I come in?”
There was a slight pause before she heard Lotor’s voice, that was oddly soft, “O-oh. Princess?”
“Yes. It’s me, Princess Allura.” She said.
“Sure, I’m coming.” Lotor said. She could hear slow shuffling coming from inside before the door slowly swung open, revealing the Prince.
She was shocked to see the state he was in. His eyes were half-lidded and hazy, his cheeks and nose were red, his usually flowy and smooth hair was a mess, and he was hunched over, wrapping himself tightly with a blanket.
She did nothing but stare at Lotor before he had made the first move to converse, “I look pretty bad, don’t I?” He said in an extremely clogged voice before chuckling half-heartedly, making way for Allura so that she could come in.
Upon entrance, Allura could see how messy his room looked. He had two more blankets that had been just thrown around on his bed and tissues were lying on the floor around the trash bin.
“Sorry for the mess…” Lotor sniffled, rubbing at his already-irritated nose with his finger before wincing slightly.
“For how long have you been this ill?” Allura asked, concern evident in her voice.
“I’m guessing about two or three days? I’m not so sure.” Lotor spoke, his voice hoarse. “what brings you here to my room?” He said before a coughing fit had taken over, causing him to hunch over as he supported himself against the wall with one arm while his other hand was cupped over his mouth.
Allura waited until Lotor’s coughing had died down before replying, “I wanted to tell you about how I found your research so incredibly profound and detailed, but looks like I have a different task for today.”
Allura then began, ordering a mildly confused Lotor back to bed and covering him with his blankets. She grabbed a washcloth, soaked it in cool water and placed it on the Prince’s heated forehead, which drew out a relaxed sigh from him.
Once she was sure he had fallen asleep comfortably, she found some rubber gloves and began clearing up the fallen balls of tissue on the floor and disposed of the empty boxes of tissue that he had gone through.
One she was done tidying up his room, she left the Galra headquarters to return back to the castle to grab some Altean medicine that would hopefully help with his sickness. Coran had given her a run-through on what Lotor should take for which symptom and what intervals and Allura had scribbled it all down on paper.
She brought the bag of medicine back to Lotor’s room, and returned to see him awake once again and blowing his nose into another sheet of tissue.
“Was I away for long?” Allura asked, walking over to Lotor’s bedside.
“No, no. Not at all. I’m surprised you came back.” Lotor said, sitting up against the bed frame.
“I can’t stay for too long. I have to return to my castle, but I brought over some medicine that might help you. You’re half-Altean, so I’m assuming these work.” She said, placing the bag on Lotor’s bedside table.
“Thank you so much, Princess. You didn’t have to.” Lotor said. He could not deny that he was slightly touched by her actions.
“I-I’m not doing this because we’re good friends or anything. I just wanted to make sure that in the event of any attack, our ally is strong. It’s only because you are the leader now..” Allura said, stuttering a little here and there.
“Of course, Princess. But thank you nonetheless.” Lotor genuinely smiled seeing how flustered Allura was.
Allura opened up the medicine bag, taking out a few small pills from their bottles and checking with the list she created earlier before giving Lotor instructions on consuming the pills. She then handed him a glass of water to down the pills easier. The pills didn’t go down so comfortably for Lotor, due to his sore throat which caused him to wince a little as they went down, but he managed.
“If you have any problems with taking the medication, just read this list.” Allura said, handing Lotor the small piece of paper, “It’s a little small and messy because I wrote it in a hurry, but it should be legible.”
“It’s fine, Princess. Thank you.” Lotor smiled, looking at the piece of paper. It was not that bad.
“Alright! I ought to get going.” Allura said.
“Yes, please. Thank you for looking after me even though you must be busy.” Lotor said, attempting to get out of bed to send her off, but Allura declined.
“You don’t have to send me off. Remember to take the medicine on time and re-soak that washcloth whenever it starts to warm, and contact me once you feel better!” She said, making her way out of the room.
“I will. Do not worry.” Lotor replied.
Allura could not believe she just did that for the ruler of the Galra. Lotor fell back asleep soon after she left with a certain warmth in his chest.
