Have you checked with a healer? I had similar symptoms and checked with a healer, that got me where I am now.

Joking aside, I definitely recommend that you check with a healer before anything else.

I have an ear infection for the first time in like ten years, so that's fab.

Reading fanfics where a kid character gets a fever and the parental/older sibling figure freaks out is so confusing for me

Does this actually happen?? Because my experience with fevers and flus is that everyone in the household must get one every winter, it's mildly annoying and there's a lot of tissues and depending on the kid they'll either fall asleep on the couch, not get out of bed in the first place, or act like nothing's amiss. The only real struggle is convincing the kid to take medicine

Is this not normal? Is my family the anomaly here?
