“Fascinating.”
He’s run out of patience with this topic, unfortunately. “You're a researcher, you claim, yet you seem to believe one side of the story pretty fast as opposed to searching for all sides.” He crosses his arms, clearly displeased. “You’re very quick to pin Dorothy as a ‘witch’ and Nicholas as a ‘hero’, and from what I’ve heard the past couple days, haven’t given Sirius a chance to explain what he knows without shooting him down. Isn’t that antithetical to what researchers are meant to do?”
Ashe had made it routinely that he'd bake up some delicacies to accompany Sirius's tea. Everyday varied, as one day may be elisenlebkuchen and another apricot cookies. Today however, the braided male dedicated more time and effort into today's batch, fingers carefully engraving characters into each butter wafer, spelling out "Happy Birthday". When finished, he slipped into Sirius's room, placing down the plate of wafers. He gave an gauche smile as he waited for the lavender to notice the oddity.
Sirius would never say it aloud, but he always looked forward to Ashe’s baked goods. They perfectly complemented the tea he chose, and often, he would take the leftovers to his room to snack on as he read long into the night. So, Ashe may not have known this, but-- when he entered his room with cookies, though Sirius pretended to be indifferent to them, he was secretly eyeing them over the pages of his book.
... Hm? Except, these appeared different today. Happy... birth... day. Happy birthday.
Wait.
“How did you know?” He picked one of the cookies up and examined it, fighting the smile that threatened to show on his lips. He hadn’t told anyone, including Ashe. There was no reason to-- no one had celebrated his birthday in years. He had always spent it alone. So... “Ashe... thank you.”

She just smiles mischievously as she continues to cling to him. Her grip is loose enough that he has at least some room to move around, but it’s clear that she doesn’t intend to let go of him just yet.
“... Not until the crepes are started. I’m holding you to it... literally.”

“Hmm. Can’t you accept a gift and stay quiet?” With an exasperated sigh, Sirius began walking off down the hall. If he was going to explain how those amulets worked, he would have to physically show Ashe not only his books on the matter, but the process of creating one itself.
“As you wish. If you are that curious, I will allow you to witness the making of one. But then you are to leave me alone for the rest of the day. Do you understand?”

“What--?!” And up he went. Dammit all to hell, he wasn’t going to be treated like some child--!
“Why did you have to go and ruin it?!” He whined. But Ashe simply nuzzled into his back, and Sirius found himself back at square one. There was no resisting a good hug-- it was a weakness of his. He stayed put compliantly. “Just for that, you’re making breakfast!”

His body went tense as soon as he felt a pair of arms snake around his waist. Had it been absolutely anyone else, he would have yelled, flailed, stepped on their foot; but the embrace felt comforting and familiar, and he relaxed into it with ease.
Ashe was probably the only person he would accept any form of physical contact from, period.
“... You’re warm.” Rather than complaining, he said that begrudgingly. They were about the same height, but Ashe was just a little taller, and Sirius fit perfectly in his arms. Carefully, he nuzzled his head against the other’s.

I never understand what you’re thinking. Why do you put up with me, when all I do is treat you like trash? No, you do more than that. You’re the first to check on me– no one else cares to. I do
I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve a friend like you.
Drunk. That’s what Sirius was when he wrote that text. And through a single moment of clarity, he went to erase it, but had instead mistakenly sent the damn thing.
He was going to have a hangover in the morning.
