Considering the Sideburn
So yeah, confession time- got a few thoughts about those luscious long lovely Ten's sideburns. I think the best "look" of the those sideburns was in series four with Donna. OMG! and check them out in the two part episode Silence in the Library and Forrest of the Dead!
Yowsa! Those are some mighty sexy side-whiskers he has going on there. Can you see in the photographs above and below how the hair is lending itself to the emphasis of them? Through ten's run look at their just lovely blending with the hair when we meet him in Christmas Invasion and during his time with Rose. In Martha's series I'd like to think that scene in Smith and Jones where his hair is all wild as he's fiddling with the computer was inspiration for bringing the front hairs up to spiky proportions as we get to his time with Donna.
I even heard a theory that his hair gest wilder topside because he's so crazy in love with Rose he just doesn't care about how he looks. Is that true? If that has any basis in fact, we were the ones benefitting from that subtext because when ten's hair went all spiky-uppy and the hair in the back and in the sides got shortly and cropped it completely exposed the full length of those wonderfully, stroke-able, salaciously sexy, sideburns! Am I nuts? Maybe- but you can't deny the way they have been an inseparable feature from that great- that really, really, seriously great hair. Let me ask you this; have you ever seen any artist minimize or ignore them in their art? No- how could you? They are the defining must have feature to go with the spiky topped coiffure.
Without that hairstyle and the distinctively, delectable, detail running alongside those ears, it's just not our beloved tenth Doctor! So call me crazy if you want but you'll not stop me from obsessing and wanting to fondle them- not to mention what you find yourself ruffling next.
