Doodles of my "Gargoyles" OC, Siden 🌙
In chapter 43 of PRIORY, Kalyba refers to Ead - and formerly herself - as a sidensmith, and it's the only place in the book where that alternative for 'mage' is used. Is it some archaic form that only Kalyba uses, or was it just because in other cases there was no need to differenciate between the users of siden and sterren?
Mage is a Southern word of Ersyri origin. Not being Southern herself, Kalyba has her own preferred words for what she is, although she has integrated mage into her vocabulary.

I hope any new Priory books will elaborate on the magical balance. Priory itself spends most of the time just finding out that there is a balance, but how it works and has worked leaves me with so many questions.
What caused the imbalance that created the Nameless One? Kalyba claims it were the celestial jewels (p. 766) yet Nayimathun explains on page 285 the jewels have existed for eternities and gone lost a thousand years ago which sounds like the jewels were there long before the creation of the Nameless One and not causing problems. Also Kalyba is very intrustworthy yet I do think her considerations about the imbalance have a point, but no one knows which.
The Nameless One may have been caged for a thousand years, but his sleeping presence could’ve been balancing the magic; what will happen after his death? Will new High Westerns rise? Will this happen only after the passing of the comet? Will sterren magic show harmful side effects too?
Did the other siden trees die because the creations of the High Western drained too much of the siden magic? Or was it the death of the siden trees that created the imbalance calling for the High Westerns? And how did Neporo and Kalyba know each other, what happened between them that Kalyba thinks her a terrible person? Could Neporo have destroyed the trees? When and how did Neporo die? Did she even die? Did Neporo practise sterren magic too?
I think Kalyba’s warning to Sabran about chaos and the sweet water could be in the same vein: Kalyba fears the coming of a new magical imbalance but we can’t trust her to have understood it right.
They look genuinely cute together lol.
