I’m using the Golden Tarot, first reading for another person. It’s already told me that it refuses to pull punches, but that it has the kind of honor and virtue or a fairy-tale hero, so it seems right here. Let’s see how it goes. I really want to take a picture of this one, so let me know if you’d like to see it, okay?

Roots: The Moon
Already one of my favorites from this deck, it’s emotive, layered, and exquisite. This iteration has less to do with dreams and illusions and much more to do with the interplay of light and dark, growth and loss, in the natural world. I feel most for the stag leaping to the heights, and the Moon seems to look kindly down at it. This season will see you waxing, I think, but in a way that reminds you that all things are fleeting, and that our lives are cyclical. Setting your course by that understanding will make things even better for you.
Stem: Five of Cups
A card of loss, frustration, and disappointment. It’s the moment when one realizes one’s mistakes, and I get the sense that the seated figure is very angry with himself, wishing he could snatch back the spills and breakage. Something of this has carried over from summertime, some failure or instant of disillusionment. Even a minor setback long past could still be holding you captive in its way.
First Branch: Knight of Coins
Here is an honorable, reliable, gently determined Knight, a slow and devoted person. The qualities seem to be gifts unto themselves, really, and a good example to others. It feels to me like you’ll have the chance to embrace such traits, whether they come naturally or as a result of emulation. It’s more than practical. It feels like it will be extremely good for you, and make you more of who you are.
Second Branch: Three of Swords
You know this card evokes grief, endings, and a broken heart. At this moment, though, the woman in the card is definitely retreating to heal herself. It doesn’t dull the pain, but there is a clarity in accepting that things can’t be as they once were, and she holds herself as she processes. The more I think about it, the more this seems like a fight, the kind of quarrel that snaps you in two, even for a second. This is not just pain, but a gathering of strength as you experience it. Rest assured, that should something like this befall you, something greater will come out of it.
A Broken Branch: Two of Swords
A woman sits poised between two unappealing options. It is before her to forge something better from this bad situation, but to me, she seems paralyzed. It’s almost as if she’s rocking back and forth, completely spun by the weight of her indecision. Don’t let this happen to you. Take heart, and trust that whatever you choose will be right.
First Leaf: Page of Coins
This Page pauses in study to receive a divine message. The message is a gift, I think, of knowledge and encouragement, spurring and speeding the Page’s development, so he attacks his studies with renewed vigor. The path of the Knight, of adopting those qualities and applying them to your life, has the seemingly reverse effect of pushing you further forward. It can renew your enthusiasm and make you enjoy working harder. I think the pair of them have a nice interplay of work and its benefits, and it’s a neat path to have.
Second Leaf: Queen of Cups
This card, I kid you not, entered my mind over and over as I shuffled for you. It’s a quiet undercurrent, to be sure, but the most lastingly intense of anything in this reading. I find it very encouraging that she comes after the Three of Swords, and I hope it lessens any worry that might make you feel. A blossoming comes out of this. She is radiant and well at home anywhere. Her wealth and wisdom support and enhance one another. She knows sorrow well, and can read it in the hearts of others. Most importantly, she knows how to deal with it. The turtledoves at her side show me how much love she really has to give, if only a partner who accepts and understands her would show themselves. A loss like the Three of Swords, temporary or not, has to be processed. It gives you the ability to reforge yourself, to have and enact a deeper, greater kind of love. This Queen is watching over you.
Wow. This deck really doesn’t fuck around. Forbidding as it may seem, this reading is clearly telling you that you can handle any of the difficulties thrown at you. You have more within you than you might expect, and it’s challenging you to live up to that. You’ve got this. :) lovelovelove
