Sifoneria and Xisco Fuentes

One of my favorite experiences while in Palma, Mallorca happened by sheer chance. Rachel and I went into the Sifoneria to get a glass of wine and marvel in the quaint wine bar's surroundings (including the casks of wine, Juan Carlos - owner and proprietor, and all of the bottles, cassettes, and records laying around the place) when one of the wine swilling patrons introduced us to Xisco Fuentes. I was told he was an incredible painter and just had to see his work. I didn't think anything would come of it, especially since he was sipping his third glass of wine when it was brought up, but was surprised when he tapped my shoulder and said to follow him. I got up, paid our ridiculously cheap bill, and let him guide us through Old Town and into his gallery. It contained many of his paintings, drawings, and sketches, as well as an old working desk. Many of his paintings were of people he knew (family members, friends, patrons of the Sifoneria). Others were of the Mallorcan landscape, vacant train yards, bottles from the Sifoneria, and factories. He delves into a bit of everything. It's fun, serious, and passionate. Enjoy.
