Going to continue making these references... HEY! what if the whole story was one big reference? I will have to break out my Homer.
On his journeys Sig is aided by two high school students who also happen to be siblings. The younger, a freshman, is a girl named Alexa, and the older is a boy, Junior, named Josh.
Their parents got a divorce a while ago, so they live with their mom in Minneapolis. Their father lives in Cleveland, Ohio, and they visit him on long weekends like Veteran's Day.
Alexa is the picture of snark, and is very literal minded, but she's actually really aware and can be considerate and understanding. She brings home Sig. Josh, on the other hand, is a total science fiction nerd (well he likes fantasy too) and is ecstatic to have a real life alien in his house.
One more thing: Sig's telepathic voice is the guy who does Morimoto's voice overs on Iron Chef America.
Here's a little story about Siglin, or just Sig, the alien guy and his species. I might be entering him in this tumblr only OCT thing. We'll see.
Sig is a part of an unnamed alien species that lives on a barren planet. A long time ago, his predecessors to his species was put on this planet as part of an attempted genocide by their old world's rulers. They didn't expect that the predecessors would be able to adapt to live on a barren world by selecting for a gene that allowed for greater mental prowess, eventually leading to psychic powers. After their numbers grew, this species overthrew their rulers and established a peaceful planet.
Sig's species revolves around a central idea: detachment from all physical life will eventually result in a melding with the Cosmos and thus a universal, almost god-like state of existence. Sig's species reproduces differently too. An elder of the species splits its mind into many different parts, and then the psychic bits from the mind bud out of the body, taking part of it's physical mass with it. This results in the elder's death. The species is also non-gendered.
Despite their detachment from physical life, Sig's species is very advanced in technology and has the ability to travel across the universe with a device known as the Transantiomer. Every now and then a member of Sig's species will go on an Odyssey to explore some unknown part of the Cosmos. A successful Odyssey will result, they hope, in a greater attachment to the void of space.
The species has incredible psychic powers, which are concentrated in their topmost, third eye. Their Right eye is the eye of Awareness, and their Left eye is the eye of Memory. If a member of this species were to lose their Right eye, they would not be able to see. If they lost their Left eye, they would suffer from memory loss. If they lost their Middle eye, they would lose their psychic powers. Every member of the species can perform basic psychic abilities, like telekinesis, levitation, limited teleportation and mind reading. As they grow and mature, they can reach a more powerful unique psychic ability.
Their species is a solitary one, living in single-person complexes known as Medidorms. They can live for a long time, sometimes for centuries. They do not need air, water or food to survive, but actually meditation and what they call "peace of mind", for at least one hour every day.
Sig's Odyssey
Siglin, one day, while meditating, found a stray rocket cap, or the pointy part at the top of a rocket, far out in space. Using his psychic powers, he drew the object to his Medidorm and inspected it. Inside the rocket cap was a poem. He deciphered the poem and found it to be about a subject he had no knowledge of- "Love". Confused and intrigued, as it is his nature to be curious, Sig decided to take an Odyssey to a far away place - Terra - and uncover what Love is, and what it means to be in Love.
His adventures on Terra have yet to be mapped out, but he discovers that Love is what his species has been looking for - that turning away from everything they knew is what is preventing them from obtaining ultimate meld with the Cosmos.
