unfortunately fortunate meetings;
Sebastian Moran always, in some corner of his brain, knew he'd meet his end in the dirty underground of London. He wasn't quite prepared to die this very day; but the distant shouts and crazed laughter echoing told of his pursuers intentions. Bloody hell. Trust Jim to send him on a suicide mission; he seemed to think them noble tests of Sebastian's skills.
Sebastian considered them necessary annoyances.
With the butt of his rifle pressed firmly against his shoulder, Sebastian kept his back against the grimy brick wall behind him and concentrated on keeping his breathing even and quiet. It wouldn't do to get caught in this deathtrap of an alleyway; not with a crime scene and coppers nearly around the corner and the gang members searching for him like bloodhounds-- this was a hell of a suicide mission.
Eyes flicking across the entryway to the dead end alley he huddled in, Sebastian considered the fact it was a fairly nice alleyway for once just to pass the time-- and didn't that speak volumes about his life.
It was about all he could think about at the moment; with shouting drawing ever-nearer. And, honestly, it was a wonder the coppers hadn't gone investigating-- better things to worry about than what seemed to be a group of drunken idiots carousing and generally making fools of themselves, he supposed. ...Or, more likely, Jim was pulling some sort of sorcery Sebastian couldn't comprehend and giggling maniacally.
Sebastian tensed suddenly when a shadow flashed across the head of the alleyway, but he paused, forcing himself to relax his grip and lower the tip of his gun from where he'd raised it when it became apparent it was one lone soul. Apparently unarmed, at that, and-- seemingly, not at the moment, an enemy.
"You'd best be on your way, mate."
His warning was quiet, but harsh in the darkness. If the man didn't heed it; his loss. Sebastian wouldn't be torn up about some poor bugger who thought he was being heroic and ended up getting shot or mugged. It was his own life he was concerned about.
