OK, that sexagenarian shaolin librarian sounds badass as hell and I'm 100% behind her.
Here she is! Vala Sigris, warrior of legend, the Emperor’s old mentor, one of the top spies in the Empire and sweet little retired librarian lady. (Gentleman beside her is aforementioned Osprey, who may well be the surliest, crankiest characters I’ve created, Rannon included. 8D)

“Vala” is a title, an alternate spelling of völva, which is a powerful kind of seer/wise woman in Viking lore. It literally translates to “staff carrier”, so fitting in all manner of ways.
She may be a little wrinkly old woman, but she can kick your ass 50 shades of pain with her pinkie, and when her braid isn’t coiled prettily around her neck, it’s a fearsome multi-purpose weapon in it itself. ♥
