“L/N Y/N! Where is she?! Please tell me where she is! I need to see her!” Minsik fumbled over his words, breathing heavily as he had run all the way from home, not wanting to risk traffic getting in his way of seeing you.
That phone call he had gotten from your captain’s had terrified him.
“Y/N has been shot.”
He felt his heart drop and shatter into several pieces, as your captain continued to explain what happened over the phone. You and a group of fellow detectives were trailing a man who had fled the scene of an assault. You took charge, running after him on foot.
You made the mistake following him into an alley. The man reached into his pocket, pulled out his gun and shot you in the chest. The adrenaline inside of you rushing to levels you had never felt before. The pain hadn’t even settled in yet. You pulled out your gun, shooting him twice in the leg to stall him before the pain struck you.
Your gun had dropped from your hand, just seconds before you followed in pursuit. The last thing you remember hearing was an officer, screaming officer down into his radio.
For the next hour or so, you felt yourself going in and out of consciousness. Memories of your life replaying in your head, your birth, your first word, your birthdays, growing up and going into the police academy to become a detective, even memories including Minsik.
Meeting him for the first time.
The two of you had crossed paths for the first time when Minsik had stood in the middle of you finally getting to catch your first criminal. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, his car almost hitting you. He quickly pushed on the breaks, looking at your through his windshield. You punched the hood of his car, leaving a large dent in it, cursing him under your breath.
You may not have caught the criminal that day, but what you did catch was the eyes of your soulmate. It felt like only yesterday, it was 5 years ago.
Your first kiss.
It was your 2 month anniversary. The two of you had stayed in for a movie date and watched, made fun of, a romance movie. He decided now would be the time to go for it, and he went for it. It wasn’t the greatest kiss, but it was your first kiss together and you cherished that moment, as did he.
Your first time with one another.
He waited as long as you wanted him too. He didn’t want to rush into something that you weren’t comfortable in. The night you finally became one was a night to remember. It was a bit awkward and there were funny moments, that the two of you will never forget. But most importantly, there were loving moments. It was love.
The night he proposed to you.
It was the night you were finally promoted to sergeant. He had taken you out to celebrate to the fanciest restaurant he could make a reservation to in such a short time, even if you told him not to. By the end of the night, Minsik found himself saying some cheesy proposal on one knee, holding a blue velvet box that housed a diamond ring. And you found yourself with tears in your eyes, saying yes.
All of those memories playing in your mind at once, as a doctor and a few nurses crowd over your body, a bright light shining over you, trying to find the bullet and stop the bleeding.
You had been in surgery for too long. Why was it taking so damn long?
The more minutes went by, the less hope Minsik held onto. He paced back and forth in the lobby, praying to whatever deity would listen to him.
“Please, just...just let her be okay. I can’t live without her. I don’t know what I’ll do without her. Please...please just please let Y/N be okay,” He whispered, his hands trembling with fear. He continued, “I’ll never forgive myself for letting her walk out that door this morning if something happens.”
It had felt like an eternity!
A nurse in dark blue scrubs approaches him, she cleared her throat to get his attention. His bloodshot eyes snapped open and over to her, “Yes? Is Y/N okay?”
She nodded her head, “We managed to get the bullet out. Ms. L/N is alive and well. We transported her to a hospital room. If you would like to see her now, follow me please.”
He followed behind the nurse without question, walking to your room. She felt him alone, as they reached the door, wanting the two of you to have a moment. He slowly opened the door, stepping inside the dark room. The only light was from the TV. He stepped further inside, finally seeing you laying in bed, “asleep”.
He could see the stitches on the side of your head and the pained look on your sleeping face. You were still hurting. It hurt his heart to see you in that hospital bed.
Minsik took a seat next to you, gently grabbing your arm as tears had formed in his eyes again. He cried, “Y/N, why are you so reckless?! I could have lost you today! What would have happened then?! You think I can live without you?! You think I can go on knowing I don’t have you by my side and I won’t ever get to see you again?! I can’t lose you! You know that!” He broke into a sob, unable to say anymore.
You gently squeezed his hand, making him sniffle and look at you. Your eyes were still closed, your expression more relaxed now.
“Hey, Minsik. You’re crying like you were the one who got shot. I should be the one crying here. There’s a hole in my chest.”
He let out a small chuckle, wiping away his tears. You opened your eyes, looking at him with a smile, “Don’t cry for me. I’m alright. I’m still here, aren’t I? And we’re still getting married in a few months' time. Luckily I didn’t listen to (Friend’s Name) when she said a lowcut wedding dress would be a perfect fit for me. I don’t think anyone wants to see a bullet wound on the bride.”
“How can you make me laugh at a time like this?” He questioned.
You hummed, “Because it’s part of my job. My job is to make sure you’re okay, you’re living life to the fullest, you’re loving yourself. And I would expect the same thing in return from my future husband.”
“And you will get that, I promise.” He scooted the chair forward, kissing your forehead gently.
“I know this is random but imagine the stories I’m going to tell our future children. They won’t believe their mother got shot.”
“You are NOT going to tell our kids that!”
“Why not?! You’re no fun!”
