hello! i'm competing in a rizal quizbee next month, can you recommend a few books/online credible references about rizal? please! thanks in advance! :)))) sorry sa abala huhuh
aaaaaaaaaaahhh I MIGHT BE LATE PERO
The First Filipino (Leon Ma. Guererro): One of the best biographies of Rizal that won 1st place in a Rizal biography contest. I highly recommend this one because of its sheer detail to Rizal’s life and non-biased writing.
Vida y Escritos del Dr. Jose Rizal (Wenceslao E. Retana): The first ever posthumous biography of Rizal, written around 1907 (that’s like 11 years after his death).
Memorias de Estudiante de Manila (P. Jacinto aka Jose Rizal): the diary of Rizal when he was around 16 years old. READ THIS AND YOU WILL REALIZE THAT RIZAL IS AN ACTUAL MEME. (Can be found in an Englist translation by Leon Ma. Guerrero under “The Young Rizal”).
The Great Malayan (Carlos Quirino): Another great biography of Rizal, very hard to find nowadays too.
A Calendar of Rizaliana (Ambeth R. Ocampo): A collection of documents from the Philippine National Library. These are documents either written by Rizal, written to Rizal, or written about Rizal. Basically miscellaneous letters, grocery lists, things like that.
Rizal Without The Overcoat (Ambeth R. Ocampo): Other more miscellaneous things about Rizal’s life. This book is here to humanize the character of Rizal; expect things like mythbusters and even Rizal’s clothing measurements.
Makamisa: The Search for Rizal’s Third Novel (Ambeth R. Ocampo): The unfinished draft sequel to El Filibusterismo, complete with translation and annotation.
I’m pretty sure there’s more I haven’t found pero I HOPED I HELPED AHHH
