stuff i should have written, but didnt: a list

because I'm bored in the car home with an hour of traffic ahead of me Here is a non-exhaustive list of story arks that happened at some point, but that I never sat down to write:

Everything with the founding of the Stardust Wanderers in Arcane, plus their subsequent move to Wind

That whole bit with the centaurs and Basil stealing eggs, though an attempt was made, and the move to Earth

The whole damn nuzlocke- ok, that one still exists somewhere deep in the FR forums, but I never finished writing it

I thiiiiink I wrote /something/ for Adara and Jadeb's reunion, but??????? who even knows. Not nearly as much as I had thought up anyways

Everything around the Crescendo Trickster's crew (pre-timeskip)

What was supposed to happen during the Siege of Sharphorn, but that belongs in the salt mines

Subsequently, Cenric and Morgan's time together

Tbh the whole of Cenric's backstory until the CT's days. Eydis would deserve it too probably. ...and most everyone else.

Erin's timeskip family adventure (RIP Sav Sr., Asha best daughter always)

The whole damn Brightshine ark around the Shifting Sands troupe

Timeskip shenanigans for the rest of the crew, and then Cen rejoining (and the beginnings of his relationship with Zach, bc this useless gay falling in love deserves to be written about)

General slice-of-life things, ft Angelo and Carver, or the Dragon DnD party

That. WHOLE damn bit around the unnamed Shadow court. Samael and Velsuan's whole 'i know that you know that etc', Seer in general, Moeken and Leiben finally being used somewhere, the artifacts bs, the place being straight up obliterated. Honestly I'm most mad about this because of Seer, this kid would make 800% more sense with that context, I literally built almost all of it all around him

The two-parter around Carver's death, though this one gets an honorable mention because I posted a summary

The 'cameo specials' around @daringdragons's lore, which can be summarized by "Kepi, What The Everloving Fuck"

Other stuff that are in the works because there's ALWAYS things in the works. Those are mostly related to friends. I'm honored and also terrified of fucking shit up. I'm so happy.

Rememberances

As the sun dawned on the last day of Rockbreaker’s Ceremony, the Stardust Wanderers’s lair was already bursting with activity. Dragons from neighboring territories were coming for the last celebrations, that the Guild had offered to host in their hall; the festivities were planned to be spectacular, and they had been for the whole week. Old friends and families had come to the Guild for the festival; the lair had never been so alive since they took residence here. It was a time of joy, like every festival should be.

But for the whole week, Adara had barely been taking part in any of the events. The leader was only seen when she was needed to greet guests or for important matters; even then, she seemed like she wasn’t really there. She didn’t wear her crown, left her usual armor away, preferring a simple outfit that clashed with the festive apparel everyone was wearing.  And for this last day, she had left the lair while everyone was still fast asleep.

The Wildclaw took flight in the dry air of the desert, to the south, passing over the rifts of the Pillar of the World to reach the Shattered Plains. There, on one of the many shards of stone that stood in the barren expanse, she landed, and contemplated the earth. 

It was the same wilds that had seen her grew up; unchanged, and eternal. “We will be here when all else crumbles”; the motto of her flight resonated in her head. Yes... she had seen so much change; from the dawn of a new life in the Starfall Isles, to the peak of her Guild in the Windswept Plateau. And when everything she had worked for threatened to collapse on itself, she found comfort in the solitude of Dragonhome, allowing everyone to get back on their feet. To her, the Earthshaker’s timeless lands were truly the best refuge one could ask for.

And yet... something was amiss. The one pain that she thought buried deep in her heart came back with an intensity she didn’t expect. How many months had it been already since the last Ceremony ? How many years since Jadeb had disappeared without a word ?

Secretly, she had hoped that he would come back like nothing happened. Tell her about the new murals his clan had painted in the Greatwyrm’s Breach, or how he got lost an incredible secret cavern, with treasures that had been buried for hundreds of years. Come back after the festival, like he was supposed to... but the wish that had carried Adara through all this time didn’t come true. She looked down at her jade pendant, the gift he had made for her during the very first festival they spend together, and that she had almost never taken off since. Maybe it was time to let go for good... 

Looking into the golden sky, she took a deep breath of the morning air, and prepared to take flight again. 

It was enough memories for one day. She had festivities to join.

Somewhere, deep in the Foxfire Bramble, a hooded Wildclaw thought about her.

So I have this 6-digits ID Guardian that had no lore yet. And I just got this permabab from @ammyfr (I hope you don’t mind me pinging you weeps). I started having ideas. It got out of hands.

Consider this.

The Guardian had been on his Search for long, for so long that he doesn't even remember who he was before, or even how it began. He only wanted to Find. He trusted the Light, the Light that would show him the way.

And then, after many years, he found it. A small Imperial child, born from the Lightweaver, as shining and bright as the sun rays the Ruins bask in. He was evidently lost, and too young to find his parents by himself again.  The Guardian felt relief, for the first time that he could remember. He finally had a purpose.

He took care of him, for a few months, a few years. His pride, his joy, his everything. The baby Imperial grew into a beautiful child (how could he be anything except perfect ?), and the Guardian was at peace.

But the child was curious, and there are things one must not approach. Immaculate light it so easy to taint. That's how the infection started. The Guardian searched for a cure, without rest, but nothing to be found. People feared them. They did not want to help. Eventually, it was too late, and the Guardian feared too, for he would not survive the loss of the Charge he had spent so long looking for, and that he only just had found.

But the child didn't die. The darkness and the marks had spread on his whole body, the golden of Light was gone from his eyes, but he did not succumb. No, after a slumber of several days, he awakened to a much worse fate. The Shade had took entirely control of the child's body, using it as a vessel to spread its influence and command to those who gave in to the corruption. After all, what better puppet than an innocent young from the breed of the undying ? 

The Imperial was no more; but the Guardian remained. 

Where the child would go, he would follow. At first, the Shade child was annoyed; it did not need a dragon following it wherever it went. But the Guardian did not give up, no matter what the child did. If it put itself in danger, the Guardian would rush in and protect it, no matter how terrible its action. The Shade child laughed. What a delicacy to see such a strong believer turn on his deity to protect the incarnation of the dragon's enemy. And a living child's body, if easy to manipulate, has needs and limits. The Guardian would be useful.

And so, the cursed duo roamed Sornieth. The child going where it wanted to; the Guardian, following in its footsteps, hiding when the Shade incarnation stopped to meet its followers, but never staying too far away. Oh, of course, the dragon knew he was getting infested too. But he would not give in, not yet; the Light of his Deity would protect him, as it would eventually heal his Charge. He believed.

It was all he had left.

Part 1 -

(of that thing I have no title for)

There had been no news about the egg stealers for several months now.

After they preyed on the Stardust Wanderers, Adara had organized a search for them in the name of the Guild, and with the help of neighboring clans. In vain. And after a few weeks without any other incidents, everyone assumed that the criminals ran away from suspicion.

Rumors, though, didn’t stop. They talked about a counterattack from the Beastclans; revenge over the clans that had fought the Harpies during the Siege of Euxenite. But how could beastfolk manage to steal so many eggs from the dragons without getting caught ? Surely, there was more to it… In this heavily-populated, usually welcoming and lively area, clans kept to themselves, avoiding their neighbors, harboring doubt and suspicions. Some clans even came to fight about unfounded accusations; but without any evidences, conflicts didn’t last. And the many victims of the criminals could only weep for their lost hatchlings.

Even Adara had to abandon the search for her stolen egg. Her duties as the guild’s leader took all of her time, not even allowing her to grieve. She only felt frustration. Yes, some friends had offered to help; but she couldn’t afford to spend so many resources on such an egoistical purpose. Even Naos and Soan, only other members of the guild to suffer the same loss, had accepted their fate. After all, even if clans were supposed to offer some kind of safety, these things were not rare among dragons.

“That’s just the way things are”, stated the Tundra, while his guild master could not accept what she perceived as a terrible failure. Of course, Naos and Soan were not going to care about it as much as she did, she thought bitterly. How could plentifuls like them understand the pain Siel and herself had to go through ? Wildclaws and Coatl hatchlings were way more precious than Faes or Tundras…

She knew it was wrong to think that, but she desperatly needed something to unleash her anger. Even if it was on her own clanmates. Velsuan had warned her that she should probably take a vacation; but she had refused. She had never left her job, not even when Jadeb went missing. And she did not intend on starting now.

Siel, on his side, had less trouble with it. Saying that it didn’t hurt would be a lie; but the Coatl was of a far more optimistic nature than his mate, and didn’t have the typical Wildclaw complex towards failure that she had. Eventually, they both came to terms with the pain. They even started thinking about laying another nest. After all, no one had heard about the thieves for a long time now.

They were probably safe again.

An egg was stolen from Adara and Siel's clutch today. They had to leave them alone for a little moment to take care of something in another part of the lair, leaving them to their familiars. When they came back, one of them was missing. Thats the second time an egg disappears from the nesting grounds in the last month. They heard nearby clans suffered similar losses. People were worried last time, but stealing an egg from the clan leader... They never thought anyone would dare such a thing. They've set up guards to watch over the area and look out for the potential stealer, and Velsuan took her team of scouts to try and find them. Nothing. The clan is angry, and their leader even more. If they find the one who did this... There may well be new additions to Adara's crown.
