First and foremost, I chose to write this as an epilogue to tie up all loose ends as much as I saw fit. I know a lot of you weren’t expecting it to end so quickly, especially after the cliffhanger. I ended all actionable plot early on and then moved onto the ending that I’d had pictured since nearly the very beginning. So, without further ado...
If you weren’t sure, the jump after The Rescue was a little over a year. Derek had graduated and Stiles had as well. Stiles was valedictorian but he chose not to speak for the school for what should be very obvious reasons. Papa Stilinski and Derek just barely were able to convince him to even walk.
Regarding the “fix” for Stiles’ hearing, I hope it wasn’t offensive, blasé, or anything like that. I’d had that planned from the very, very beginning. Since I was the evil bastard who took it away, I felt like it was only appropriate to give it back. However, it doesn’t end there...
Remember Preston? If you don’t, (shame on you) Chapter 12 will refresh your memory. Anyway, Stiles’ old friend inspired him to put his powers of tongues to good use. He wanted to get involved in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, and now that he has his hearing back he can fulfil his dream: he’s going to eventually apply to law school! I think he’d canonically make an amazing lawyer, and within this AU, he’ll provide services pro bono to those in the deaf/HOH community who need it. It’s what his mother would have wanted, and what he wants as well.
