“We’ll make another picture and another. You see, this is my life! Just us, and the cameras and those wonderful people out there in the dark! All right Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close up.” - Sunset Boulevard A story told by a deadman is going to put a dark tone in the story. I was surprised at how scared I was during this movie. It was almost like an elegant “Creature Feature”. Through most of the movie, I was watching through my fingers because I was so nervous as to what was going to happen next. It was like I was waiting for Norma to turn into a dragon and set everyone on fire! 🔥🔥🔥 Norma represents the fall of silent film stars. People who were held in high society but get forgotten as the years progress. She eventually fades away as sound becomes popular. Traumatized by her age, she falls into a dark spiral down memory lane. The envy of youth and the desire to be wanted again was an interesting character dynamic. Which is played by the perfect person. Gloria Swanson was a silent film star and her career became extinct with the progression of “Talkies”. No one leaves a star... #LazyFilmCritic
