There's a small community in the world of Silent Green that I've been puzzling over today and I want to talk about it just a bit.

Here's the snippet of info I've got for the town:

A community that settled on the grounds of a pre-catastrophe motel complex. Originally named The Easy Rest Inn, the sign's letters had been stolen in the intervening years, thus leading Lia George, the person thought to have established the town, to name it such. Groups of wanderers and stragglers are generally accepted into the town, provided they're willing to help in as much a capacity as they are able. The parking lot has been dug up and converted into a small farming space with enough to feed the town, while the pool has been converted to a pond and expanded to accommodate fish and other aquatic life to help sustain the population.

So, a little article stub, if you will. I like that the first thing to come to me about Silent Green in months, and it's a community. There's probably something more I can add to that, but I'll stand by it.

In words: Kevin Devine live @ Silent Green, Berlin

It’s been a little over 10 years since Kevin Devine released „Brother’s Blood” and toured it, when he celebrated its anniversary by playing all the songs from the album plus a few extra songs last Friday in Berlin. He played at Silent Green in Berlin. Silent Green is a former crematorium and now a place for art to flourish. It’s been my first time there and we were all stunned by the acoustics of the room, the audience and artists on stage.

Devine said right away that he only wants to play in (former) crematories from now on. After this night I fully support him. It’s not new that he steps back from the microphone to belt out his songs to underline the hardship and emotions of his lyrics but this room lifted it up a new level of intensity in a way that gave me the shivers, especially when he performed the title track of the album, “Brother’s Blood”.

I sat there, in this former crematorium, hearing “Another Bag of Bones” and the relevance of this political songs just hit me - the environmental issues, war (crimes) and religious issues. A song still as relevant as it was when it was written over 10 years ago. When he ended with “Another Bag of Bones” and before he started with the song “Hands of God”, Devine mentioned how the songs are still relevant these days. The world changes slowly as he pointed it out. It’s also a testament of Devine’s timeless songwriting. The concert was a good reminder of his amazing songwriting.

Devine understand to have a good mix of providing food for thought and lifting the mood as well with the stories he tells between the songs and interaction with the audience or just jokingly starting Backstreet Boys song “I Want It That Way” ending with a full choir from the audience, laughing in a bit of disbelief. This concert was a lesson for life: care about stuff, be angry, think, worry but don’t forget to laugh in between. Thank you, Kevin.
