Pokemon Card of the Day #2027: Silent Lab (Primal Clash)
Silent Lab was an interesting Stadium. When in play, it made sure that each Basic Pokemon in play, in each player’s hand, and in the discard pile had no Abilities. This was very nice for a lot of decks that didn’t run Basic Pokemon with important Abilities, as it shut down Jirachi EX, Keldeo EX, Darkrai EX, Shaymin-EX, Mr. Mime, Hoopa-EX, Giratina-EX, and Tapu Lele-GX as far as Abilities were concerned. This meant the potential to block Supporter or Pokemon fetching, drawing, protection from Bench damage, switching support, or protection from Mega Evolutions depending on what you were facing. This made it a reasonably popular inclusion in decks such as Primal Groudon-EX, Donphan, Trevenant, Seismitoad-EX, and the later Darkrai-EX since they didn’t rely too heavily on these things. Sure, there were plenty of good Stadiums around, so you might see something like Rough Seas in a Seismitoad-EX deck instead. Silent Lab would get the nod a decent amount of the time, however, and with so many deck relying a lot on a certain subset of Pokemon, the card could make a huge impact in a game.
