When it comes to shooting silhouettes, you need a few things in your favour... interesting shape/s or subject/s, and a dark-enough foreground to contrast shadows against a highlighted background. ~ While typical silhouettes are shot in outline to the background eg. animal on a hilltop against a brighter sky, you can also achieve it in cases like this... with a lighter fore- and back-ground thanks to the reflective qualities of water. ~ Taken on our Best of Botswana Safari in the Okavango Delta last October, that's what I was going for in this image. While, in real life, there are actually 3 elephants in this composition, only the one bull is visible.
