Sorry I've been absent y'all, i am just so busy and tired from being busy. Medical appointments, usual life stuff, and work piling up I'm working through before it gets toooo piled hah 😅

Wish me luck, this summer I'll be having surgery to stabilize my ankle, and I'm really hopeful it'll restore a lot of mobility and relieve some of my pain! I am figuring I'll have a lot of time to write again then haha, it'll be after I'm moved in, which is going well. So tired. So productive though.

Well. I just started cutting into the silicone yesterday, and I'm encountering some problems I didn't expect.

The clay is not bone dry, it should actually be at a good state for doing repairs. In fact, even if it WERE bone dry, this porcelain has a good track record of taking repairs well. Good quality porcelains can do that, it's more difficult with coarse stoneware. Neat trick I picked up from some Chinese potters.

However, for some reason the clay has become hydrophobic. I've done a little bit of playing with putting the foot at the end of this video back together, and thus far it's not going well. The clay feels oddly slippery, it's not absorbing the water like it should, and it's crumbling when I attempt to wiggle the pieces back into each other. When I spray it with water, the water beads and pools. Normally a pool of water on dry clay would dissolve that section. Normally I'd expect that unless I spritz very carefully, water could erase my fine detail. That isn't happening. The water sits on the surface of the clay for hours, not absorbing, and nothing changes. This isn't normal clay behaviour.

All of the cracks I'm finding have been in areas that I could easily repair, but the way the clay is behaving... This might be a catastrophic failure.

It's not a good feeling. I have more than half a year of 40 hour work weeks into this project, and the clay bird might be a catastrophic failure. I do not have a way to remake him without starting over from scratch.

So I even made few sketches, but still wasn't sure if I like black/dark blue or yellow/golden/sand version more... And I decided to do both! Casted a silicone mold to make a copies and try different color patterns on them :P

#KITTY #RESINSHAKER #DEMOLDING 🤗 I made this cutie with extra resin I had (always keep an extra mold or 2 on deck... it saves headaches!) & look how pretty she is! I got a bunch of colors in there, & I used some deep, dark colors on this round of #galaxyresin .... I'm in love! Now I have a TON of finish work ahead of me 🤦🏾‍♀️ but that means I have more to share! & stay tuned for another #sale!

Work in progress of banana mold. To cover the banana I used a silicone mixture and added thickener as I found that the mixture was too runny, I came back to the moldmaking and casting room today to find that it still needed a thicker second coat.

I chose a banana as the current focus in my project is on phallic shapes and symbols, which tie heavily into sex and adult play. The silicone's bright shade of pink also reminded me of the likes of Victoria's Secret and the fact that many lingerie and/or sex shops tend to incorporate hot pinks/reds/purples etc. in the exterior + interior design of these shops.
