Silk scarves http://www.thaisilkmagic.com/silk-scarvesIn this video you will see how Dao creates the wonderful silk scarf fringes that have become so popular with our Thai Silk Magic customers.Many of you have asked how we create these fringes for our silk scarves so now you will be able to see for yourself.Like all our processes it is handmade and very time consuming.As you can see Dao selects 15 to 20 threads then rolls them on her thigh just as her grandma did so many years ago.Each bunch of threads is rolled separately and tied off at the end. Then 2 lots of the rolled threads are combined and tied together.It takes about 20 minutes per scarf and you know very few of our skilled weavers have mastered the simple skill of creating the silk scarf fringes.

I wonder if you realize just how long silk scarves have been around? We created this animation video to give you some idea of the very colourful history of silk scarves. People of all ages, nationalities and status have worn a silk scarf. You may be surprised to learn who these people were. Even German pilots in World War 1 would never go into battle without their “good luck” silk scarves and this is where the term “aviator scarves” comes from. Thai silk scarves are regarded as some of the finest scarves in the world but they have only been around for less than 75 years!
