The Tetradrachm of Aetna, 460 B.C.E. Aetna, Sicily

Mint location: Aetna, a Greek city in Sicily, with the name inscribed as "ATNAION" on the coin. Date: Approximately 460 B.C.E. Composition: Silver. Diameter: Approximately 26 millimeters. Weight: Slightly more than 20 grams. Obverse (front) design: The head of Silenus, a satyr-like figure with horse ears, in a contemplative, inebriated state. Reverse (back) design: Zeus seated on a throne, holding a thunderbolt and a vine staff. An eagle is perched on a pine tree in the background, and the throne is covered with a lion skin.

The "Tetradrachm of Aetna" is an exceptionally rare and valuable ancient Greek silver coin from the city of Aetna (modern-day Catania, Sicily), minted around 460 B.C.E. The coin is famous for its unique and artistic design, featuring the mythological figure Silenus on one side and Zeus on the other. It is considered by some numismatists to be one of the most significant ancient coins in the world, sometimes called the "Mona Lisa of numismatics".

Silver coin featuring famous Viking king unearthed in Hungary

A metal detectorist has discovered a small silver coin marked with the name of a famous Viking king.  However, it was unearthed not in Scandinavia, but in southern Hungary, where it was lost almost 1,000 years ago.

The find has baffled archaeologists, who have struggled to explain how the coin might have ended up there — it's even possible that it arrived with the traveling court of a medieval Hungarian king.

The early Norwegian coin, denominated as a "penning," was not especially valuable at the time, even though it's made from silver, and was worth the equivalent of around $20 in today's money.

"This penning was equivalent to the denar used in Hungary at the time," Máté Varga, an archaeologist at the Rippl-Rónai Museum in the southern Hungarian city of Kaposvár and a doctoral student at Hungary's University of Szeged, told Live Science in an email. "It was not worth much — perhaps enough to feed a family for a day." Read more.

0️⃣7️⃣🎁Április 29-én régészeti szakfelügyeletet végeztünk Bánhorvátiban, ahol a római katolikus templomban állagmegóvási munkálatok zajlottak. A templom belsejében, az egyik, fal menti árokból kitermelt földkupacban több fémtárgyat is jelzett fémkereső műszerünk. Nagy meglepetésünkre a mellékelt fotón látható, 4db igen jó állapotban fennmaradt ezüst krajcár került elő több évszázados rejtekéből. Az érmék 1676 és 1678 között készültek. Talán Thököly Imre 1679-es, Sajó-völgyét is érintő hadjárata során rejthette el ide valaki a vagyonát, de visszajönni már nem tudott érte.
