I also like Monos! Though they seem to be more common than Scats, they are probably a little harder for the average fishkeeper to care for, just because they can be nippy.

A Sebae Mono and Red Clawed Crab kept in the same tank at Petco... neat!
Silver Moonies, one of my favorite Brackish fish. These guys were about the size of a silver dollar and man they move like greased lightning.
Another first today... actually saw some Monos! They are absolutely gorgeous fish. They had three in the freshwater section (not good long term, but okay short term) and, curiously, one in the saltwater section. That one had an awful case of Marine Ick... I told the person on duty there that they should try switching him over to freshwater and, once recovered, put him with the other Monos. But not sure if he followed that advice.
Silver Moony Genus: Monodactylus Species: M. argenteus Maximum Size: 8”, 6" more common Aggression: Low to Mid, Social Temperature: 72-80 F pH: 7.2-8 Hardness: 15-25 dH Brackish Tolerance: 1.005-1.025 Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons Feeding: Will accept most foods; flake, high quality pellets, brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp, frozen shrimp/krill, pieces of fish, earthworms Notes: The Silver Moony, very often sold as the Mono or the Silver Mono, is one of the most recognizable of the brackish water fishes, alongside Scats. These fish are extremely active and appreciate large tanks. While the listed 125 gallon works well for 3-5 of these fish, 150 gallons or more is better for larger groups or with tankmates.
The Silver Moony does best in large groups but within the confines of an aquarium become quarrelsome within their group. Having large easy-going fish (the classic companion being Scats) seems to diffuse this behavior and prevents any one fish from becoming dominant. Other good tankmates for the Silver Moony are Mollies, Chromides, Archerfish, and Colombian Shark Catfish.
The Silver Moony seems to do best in settings with high carbonate hardness, a common trait among Marine fish. They appreciate the use of crushed coral either in the substrate or used as filter media. In higher salinity systems, the use of live rock is also beneficial.
