Fire Emblem Three Houses Trivia: Per interviews, the game by mid-2018 was already in its "final stages of development", given its Japanese title had been decided during this period. In spite of this, its release date was later delayed from Spring 2019, to Summer 2019.
Silver Snow is probably my least favourite route in Three Houses. I don't like fighting against Rhea in Crimson Flower. I really don't. But I like Edelgard and Jeritza (albeit while hating Hubert) and I can imagine a sequel to Crimson Flower where we basically make a medieval Star Wars story. Seteth and Flayn would be the Obi-Wan Kenobis of the story, and I guess Byleth (whether dead or alive) would be like Darth Vader? I don't know. Really, the Star Wars analogy only works if i discuss the main factions being "rebels vs the empire." But even though Crimson Flower is stressful and kind of depressing and a story who would need a sequel addressing how abolishing crests but leaving wealth and nobility still leaves room for oppression and everything, it's still less annoying than Silver Snow.
Silver Snow shares a plot with Verdant Wind, although it lacks a lot of the interesting things that make verdant wind unique. Silver Snow is the route all about the Church, but the teachers at Garreg Mach are all sidelined in favour of the Black Eagles! I was hoping there'd be a route where I could make Seteth, Flayn, Manuela, Hanneman, Catherine, Shamir, Alois and Cyril my main team. I know Gilbert and Jeritza are route exclusive, but I like them and still count them as faculty members, so I'm discussing them here.
Silver Snow is a waste because the Garreg Mach staff are useless. Manuela and Flayn both can't learn physic? Why!? They're now useless to me! I just...fuck you, game. Fuck you for that decision. Alois, Seteth, Catherine and Shamir are all fun. But Hanneman, Flayn and Manuela...my god, their spells are useless. They're basically unusable to me, and that makes me so angry. Because I want to use them all so bad. It hurts.
Also, why was Rhea absent from the route about her organization!? I like Rhea. I know she's morally complicated, and I know she has it in her to go all "Holy Crusader." But her voice acting helped sell me on her, and I just always got a very kind impression of her. She was suspicious, sure. But she was also genuinely caring, even as she was being a bit creepy. I still feel upset she wasn't playable. She should've been.
So yeah, Silver Snow is just wasted potential. And that's upsetting, because I actually do think I'd prefer it over most other routes if it was dedicated to the staff of Garreg Mach. I actually really like the staff of the academy, possibly moreso than I like the students. And that says something about how I was in school too, by the way. I loved most of my teachers and hated the students. I like the students in three houses, but still. The staff of the school are so nice.
The explicit text and subtext fe16 people miss out on is how Byleth AND Rhea are meant to be Sothis' successors, a reality that only becomes an equal achievement in their double ending.
The Rhealeth ending might as well be called the "Miracle of Fodlan" be how the ending card describes it.
Additionally, there's also the added nuance of how Byleth comes to terms with their Nabatean heritage, contrasted with how Rhea is a long-term survivor as an age-old Nabatean.
