Two Boys, a Cabin, and a Curse
Dinner hadn’t been fancy, but Jaune had enjoyed the basic non perishables shared with Mercury. He’d probably packed enough food for a week, in truth, even if it wasn’t the most nutritious in the world. He’d done most of the talking over the meal, but he’d coaxed Mercury to speak a bit, even if just to make fun of him. For some reason it didn’t bother Jaune when Mercury did it-like it was how the silver haired exchange student showed affection.
During their earlier cleaning, Jaune had found the old marble notebook wedged under the door in the back of one of the rooms. He hadn’t been able to unlock the door, which was worrisome-especially as the other room didn’t have an extra door. Jaune had elected to sleep in the other room with the two twin beds, and Mercury got the room with the locked closet (assumedly) and the larger bed.
The journal entries were about a professor, and Jaune had wondered if it had been the teacher in Beacon who’d gone missing. It seemed he’d been compelled to come there after having a series of vivid dreams about the house he couldn’t remember-and then finding photos.
“Anna,” Jaune repeated the name as he flipped the page. It was scribbled next to the face of a woman. She was beautiful, he supposed, but she looked melancholy at best, if not heartbroken. It reminded him of Pyrrha, when she thought no one was looking.
The thought was ended when he thought he saw teardrops forming on the page. Jaune squinted as another fell, and he tensed before looking up.
That was when he bolted out of the room in his footy pajamas screaming and knocking on the other door down the hall in a frenzy.
“Merc-Mercury! Please let me in there’s-something in my room!”
