Not sure if I have mentioned that actually! Thanks for asking!

So Phospher's Spirit Of Control is Prismatic Shards Of Golden Sheen (or Prism for short). It's entire deal is wanting Control over other people - to command them so that nothing is a surprise and it knows every move everyone will ever make.

Ellie's Spirit Of Control is The Light Through Which All Is Seen (or Light for short). It's entire deal is wanting everyone to have Control over their actions - to be able to think rationally and have enough self-control to always take actions in their best interest.

The two of them balanced each other out for a while until Prism was responsible for destroying Light's physical form beyond repair. It needed about a century to reform, and in that time Prism was free to fuck up as many things as it wanted. It found Phospher 20 years into that time, and it's been 80 more by the time the main story starts.

When Light reformed, it needed a host to give its power to so that it had someone who could fight and kill Prism, giving it another century to undo the damage and get things back in balance. It chose Ellie! She was 8 years old at the time.

Because it lives forever, it considered 8 years old enough to make a life altering decision. Ellie agreed to host Light in exchange for its power and the agreement that she would have to fight a great evil one day. It sounded JUST like her fun fantasy books so of course she'd say yes! Awesome!

Light is the reason she became friends with Chell. She was susceptible to Control, and Ellie needed to protect her.

Light is the reason Ellie doesn't have time to herself. It is constantly guarding her thoughts, meaning it sees everything she does and thinks.

Light is the reason Chell fell in love with Phospher. It increased her infatuation to desire to find an excuse to make Ellie and Phospher meet.

Light is the reason Chell is gone.

Ellie really really really fucking hates Light.

While she has the ability to become entirely immune to Phospher's Control, with Light being able to reflect Prism's influence, she also affects those around her. Due to the extended exposure to Ellie as they grew up, Chell's hair started coming in white. She is also partially immune to Phospher - able to keep her thoughts in check or choose to succumb. While Light influenced her feelings for Phospher, it could never change that she loved him anyway. Time away from it and closer to Prism only solidified that.

Ellie just wants to feel like her own person again.

I absolutely adore ellie and chell and phosphor. I want to bite drywall and put phosphor specifically in a blender. Characters of all time

THEY ARE THE CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME!!!!!! TO ME!!!!!!! Phospher would just goop up a blender if you put him in there (canonically) BUT it's very easy to beat him to death* with bricks!!! So there's that!!!!

*he would not die 😔 but it's the thought that counts

💘 HEART WITH ARROW — what and/or who do(es) your oc consider the most important to them?

Eve most values fulfilling any duties assigned to her. This can be tasks or projects at work, doing everything to the highest of her abilities, helping out friends and family even when unasked, not breaking promises, etc. In other words, it doesn’t actually have to be a “real” duty. (Naturally, she runs into trouble with this frequently.) She also places a lot of importance on being straightforward—no beating around the bush, just saying what needs to be said plainly and politely.

🍃 LEAVES FLUTTERING IN WIND — what is/was your oc's favorite subject in school?

In general, she consistently liked anything that involved making things, with a strong preference for any class that taught sewing. she liked computer science much more when she became old enough to take the classes, though.

💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.

She’s full of experimental super soldier goop after being injected with it by the British government without her knowledge or consent. (The goop sucks, by the way.)

She has to have her calcium levels checked frequently because they often swing out of balance for no discernable reason.

She has a cat named Pilchard.

wait ok i know I already sent an idea but where do robots in your setting fall on the scale from "basically tools" to "people who just happen to be made of metal" in public perception?

that’s a good question! i’ve loosely thought about that, but this is a good opportunity for me to flesh it out a bit more. the public generally perceives robots not as people per se, but definitely as beings with their own thoughts and personalities. they’re treated similarly to people but not as people, if that makes sense. they’re decently respected but there’s a loud minority of people who hate them for stealing away their jobs and wives and whatever. (not the robots’ fault that they’re hotter and have better resumés than those people.)

xenos vesparum makes female wasp hosts act like future queens, ditching their job and nest to go congregate somewhere fellow infected wasps can find em to reproduce. They also make paper wasps like hanging out on and eating trumpet creeper a lot. This may just be because it's good nutrition and cover as well as making it even easier for the parasites to find each other. However, there's an idea (thus far not fully confirmed afaik) that because certain chemicals in the stuff they eat from the plants boost immune function but don't seem to affect the parasite that the parasite might also be benefitting by more or less making its host eat medicine to kill off its competition.

myrmeconema neotropicum makes its ant host's gaster (part of the abdomen) red to mimic a berry, as well as making it slower and worse at defending itself. This gets it eaten by birds that like fruit, which then leave the nematodes' eggs in their feces. The ants then find it and feed it to their larvae, infecting them and starting the cycle over.

Also m neotropicum doesn't make the gasters red by making pigment, they basically thin out the walls of it and fill it with the nematodes so the light shining through makes it look red.
