Hand hammered sterling silver water pitcher in the form of a rattlesnake. Early 1880s and made by Gorham in Providence Rhode Island. The Gorham Silver exhibit is closing tomorrow at RISD before moving to two more museums. This pitcher is owned by MFA Boston. Aesthetic Movement design doesn’t get any better.

Walker & Hall is a long-established New Zealand branch of a British firm making and selling silverware including tableware and jewellery. They were the makers of the Bledisloe Cup, first presented in 1931, and had previously made trophies for other clubs such as the Auckland Gun Club trophy in about 1917 and tennis and swimming club trophies in the 1920s. The New Zealand branch of the company is reported to be registered in 1937 newspapers. We believe this advertisement is somewhat later, dating from around 1950.
