“The sun is not rising anytime soon, you know.”
Hector’s gaze was on the east. The drunks at Buscarron’s had gotten to be too bawdy and loud for Hec, and even in the middle of the morning he stepped out onto the porch and watched the nearby stream in the lamplight, grimacing to himself with his severe face as cold air expunged noxious, ale-soaked fumes from him.
That someone would find him out here wasn’t surprising, but it wasn’t comforting. He hadn’t exactly been an extrovert at the bar, leading weary wailers to sing in their cups like he could hear from behind the worn wood walls. Hector eyed the person in the shadows warily, looking as uninviting as possible:
“Debatin’ on catching a carriage.”
