Chuuya didn’t enjoy the trips he sometimes had to make to the human market.
The fact remained, however, that under the orders of the one in charge of vampire community in Yokohama, he was obligated to check in on the place from time to time. Normally, Atsushi would have stayed at home for such visits. Today, however, was different. There was a rogue vampire out in the city, they didn’t yet manage to take them out, and Chuuya was not leaving his sweet-scented human alone in the house, where he was an easy target. He preferred Atsushi traumatized to having him sucked dry by some vampire with neither common sense nor manners.
The market wasn’t a nice place at the best of times. It was an underground bar - dark and elegantly furnished, it looked more or less like a high-end strip club. A stage in the middle, few cages built in the walls on both sides of it, and sofas and tables around the stage, with few lounges for especially important guests.
Such as Chuuya.
The moment they entered, almost all heads turned towards them. The less polite vampires hungrily sniffed the air. Chuuya long ago found out Atsushi’s blood didn’t only smell so intoxicating for him - it did so for most of their kind. Still, his human was safe as long as he was with him. They sat in the shadow of their lounge, with perfect view of the stage, enjoying some degree of privacy there, in its pleasant shadow.
The bidding was simple enough. The first to be led on the stage was a young man - proud, healthy, well-built - Chuuya could tell as much with a single sniff. The man didn’t have a particularly sweet blood, but he was bound to be better than most of the people found on the streets. The man held his head high - he wasn’t intimidated, wasn’t scared. He went to a young-looking vampire for a big sum of money, and Chuuya nodded to himself - he knew that one. The human won’t be treated badly.
The scared girl that came second was the opposite of the man. Thin, sickly, terrified, but smelling almost as sweet as Atsushi did, she made the redhead take in few long, deep breaths as he savoured the sweet scent. Seeing who bought her, though, for almost twice as much money as the man went for, the redhead sighed and shook his head, writing something in a little notebook he had. She’ll be dead by tomorrow morning. What a waste.
“...Atsushi..?” he said quietly, turning to see his human pale and looking faint. The vampire watched his sweet pet for a moment longer before beckoning him closer.
“Come sit here, beside me. We’ll be here for a while, and I might need a drink in a moment, so try to make yourself comfortable.”
