Piz Buin from the Wiesbadener Hütte (10.08.2022)
Silvretta, Alois Arnegger (Austrian, 1879 - 1963)
Summer adventures in the mountains
A white wasteland, freezing cold and strangely enough, at the same time inviting... maybe it's the blinding sun with its deceptively warm shine pinned on azure depths, but one thing is certain: all this numerous folk around isn't there for you. Rather they avoid each other consciously, while you give them exactly the same treatment. At times you'll be stuck, total strangers in pairs on a chairlift or in uncomfortably close packed groups in a swaying cabin, where superficial conversations might break the quiet truce, might, but there's only so much one can talk about weather. We can't wait to split paths again, leaving thin traces behind as the only mark that we have been together, for that one short time.
What's then to do at the end of the day, if not to have a quiet drink back at the lodge, recounting the trajectories and planning more of the same, taking pleasure from the perfumed Stiegl Columbus 1492 pale ale, arguably the best Austrian supermarket beer, throwing hops over the wave of fatigue and preparing you for another tomorrow in the immaculate loneliness?
Oh we zijn op zo’n mooie plek geweest: @silvretta.bielerhoehe . . We gingen hier langlaufen tussen alle 3000’ers van Silvretta. Achter ons zie je de Silvretta Stausee. Bijna bevroren. Het leek even of we met z’n 2e op de wereld waren. Nou vooruit, met onze mensen dan ;) . From Instagram
Silvretta
The name of a famous mountain range in the Swiss Alps that joins both Austria and Switzerland, the elegant and charismatic Silvretta means 'Forest'
Made additionally famous by the Red Hot Chili Peppers song 'Universally Speaking' in which the chorus says 'Silvretta the jets of a lifetime, go and get her, I've got her on my mind.'
This song feel ultra modern when shortened to Silv, Silvie or Silver, but maintains a classical sophistication when used in it's entirety, a real all rounder.
