- Do’s and Don’t’s -
Forgive me if I ramble...
August 2nd, 2015 (i’ll try to keep it short)
I stepped outside this morning to place a call. 11:05 am.
As I waited for it to be answered, I walked aimlessly around the parking lot of my complex - you know, regular shxt you do while on the phone. My neighbor and her mother, aged 50 or so, were about 100 feet away, but slowly approaching me.
“Did you need something in that car?” I was asked. Confused and thrown off my reply was simply, “Excuse me?”...the mother repeated herself...
“That car, did you need something in it, I saw you looking in it”
Let’s be real - racism exists as does racial profiling and white privilege. A young white man wouldn’t have been asked that question, probably wouldn’t have even been noticed as he walked around minding his business. It’s a shame that people of color are still treated this way and looked at as dangerous AT ALL TIMES in 2015 Amerikkka.
It’s been almost a year since the fatal shooting of young John Crawford (OH), and young Mike Brown (MO); the latter being the incident that sparked the #BlackLivesMatter campaign..or the straw that broke the camel’s back - perspective.
Scary times we’re living in, especially if you’re brown. I fear for my life, your life, OUR LIVES. They haven’t stopped, and i’m not sure they will.
They’re scared of us - FEAR
This concept of fear motivated me to create #HUNTINGSEASON, music inspired by the award-winning independent film Good Will Hunting, and true life events.
You won’t hear a bunch of false stories or fabricated lines on this project, you just get me. My thoughts, feelings, concerns...a bit of ego, a bit of insecurity...some confidence, some uncertainty - BALANCE
It’s funny, the other day I was asked by a close friend what I expect from this project being released...well, I expect people to take it for what it is and appreciate the effort and time put into it. I expect my supporters to know more of me than they did before. And I also expect love and hate. This project isn’t for the clubs, it won’t be sprinkled throughout your turn-up playlist, none of these songs will end up on radio or become viral. That wasn’t my intention or part of my plan when creating it. I wanted to give the people music that sounds good, feels good, and tastes good - FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I hope you hear the tape with an open ear, mind and heart, and realize that LOVE is always the answer.
