May I be so incredibly selfish and ask for either the hand-holding or kiss prompt - any of them that inspire you - for Simon and Selena? I completely understand if you don't want to, though - no pressure! Thank you for considering it anyhow. :) -SQ (who else, hahaha)
@simonsquest
It's not selfish to ask for your favorite food <3 (or at least, that would make me selfish as well... I know that feeling 😔)
I chose kiss number 24 - “we’ll face this together” kisses :3
~
It had become a ritual of sorts, to bandage Simon's wounds every night or so. Selena knew what marrying a vampire hunter would have meant for her role as a wife, and she had accepted it the moment her father arranged the marriage for her - at the time, she simply didn't know that she was going to marry the most noble and determined of them all. Which, at first, meant that her darling husband often returned home drenched in demon blood, from all the creature he fought to protect the village: he was proud of his feats, and she was as well.
Then, the wounds Selena healed became more and more gruesome.
Black and purple bruises. Bites that hit bone. Slashes. Gashes that required stitching. Purulent sores. Blackened, rotten flesh that forced her to work with a cloth on her nose.
All of that, she could tolerate. She never recoiled at the sight of blood, a trait that had been called "unladylike" but came in handy, and eventually her nose grew accustomed to the stench of decay. What knotted her throat everytime, however, was her husband himself: slouched over, almost withered from mortification - as if begging for forgiveness for failing to be healthy.
Because that was devouring Simon night by night, more than any creature of the night. However, even the best doctor in town was left scratching his head at her husband's malaise. There was nothing else they could do, but pray to God to spare Simon, and stitch flesh that threatened to fall off.
Unless Simon stopped her, in the throes of shame.
"Please, do not," he murmured, when Selena attempted to remove the leather gloves that had become a second layer of skin. "I am unsightly."
"No, you are my husband." Her retort, perhaps firmer than intended, was enough for Simon to lift his head and look at her with bleary eyes. "And a husband ought to trust his wife, if no one else."
"I never meant to imply that I don't." How feeble Simon's voice sounded, now. But as long as it carried the soft kindness of his heart, Selena would not lose hope.
"I vowed to love you in sickness as well as health, and I meant it, dear. We will see through this, one way or another."
And, holding the scars that twisted Simon's mouth into a grimace, Selena kissed them, one by one; and then his lips, thin and chapped, but still Simon's, who still had the strength to wrap his arms around her and hold her, hold her so close that their body all but melded together - a promise, that neither of them would give up or lose faith on the other.
One corner of his lip was turned into a smile, when they caught their breath. "We will. Thank you, Selena. God has been truly kind to me."
It was still her Simon, beneath the sores and the weakness.
He removed the last obstacle to their ritual: Selena stopped her wincing in time only to not upset Simon further. His poor hands... she had seen those kind of grievous wounds only on creatures beyond humanity.
It was what happened to demons when Simon's whip purified them.
Along the edge of Turkey's Kekova Island lie the submerged ruins of the buildings and walls of an ancient city. Archaeologists believe that this city is a Lycian sea port from which maritime trade was conducted with other Lycian towns and with various parts of the Greek world. Because of the threat of piracy, the port was probably heavily fortified and served both as a refuge in times of peril and as an early warning post of danger heading to the Lycian mainland. Along the mainland coastline, along from Kekova, are the chest-like sarcophagus tombs of an ancient necropolis, near the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of Teimiussa. The bay of Teimiussa, surrounded by green hills, made an excellent harbour for Lycian ships. Further down the coast are the ruins of ancient Simena, which lie below the crenellated ramparts of a ruined hilltop castle, held by the Romans and later by the Byzantine Empire. Inside the castle is a a small rock-cut theatre, used during Roman times. A lone Lycian sarcophagus stands in shallow water below the town. Over the centuries Lycia's strategically important location made it a tempting conquest for a succession of Mediterranean powers: Persia, Greece, the Macedonian Empire, the Byzantine Empire and finally the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. Lycia also suffered from natural disasters, such as a devastating earthquake that partially sank the sea port on Kekova Island. Rebuilt and still flourishing during the Byzantine Empire, the port was abandoned by the end of the 8th century because of pirate attacks and Arab raids. The Lycian coast was not cleared of piracy until the British Navy began patrolling the area during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Atlas of Lost Cities: Legendary Cities Rediscovered
@simonsquest asked: "For the ship ask, would you be so kind as to indulge me re: Simon&Selena? I'm curious if your feelings on them have changed over time! And for something less self-indulgent, I'm curious about your thoughts on Dracula/Lisa. :) Thank you in advance!"
So! Simena:
I sure do read fics about it! Well, just one :P
I admire your dedication in fleshing out so much a ship that most likely no one was interested in, given Selena's lack of screentime in her own obscure game. But you picked her up and turned her into a compelling, lovable character, and then created the sweetest relationship with the already sweet Simon!
I always found interesting that you imagined the two having an arranged marriage, which is usually used to mean "they don't actually love each other, they were forced to". And you touch upon these themes, how the Belmonts have many obligations. But Simon is just... impossible not to love :P and the two become spouses should be: each other's rocks during hardship.
while I am at it could you please give them a break ;A;
Draculisa:
I'm conflicted lol
Draculisa is pretty much the basis of Dracula's descent into villainy (Elithias too, but on a far lesser scale). And so I'm in front of a dilemma: do I prefer tooth-rotting sweet Draculisa, or something more sinister?
I think Dracula really was a good husband to Lisa. I think, selfish bastard as he is, he really showered in love without asking for anything in return, because he really was touched by her bravery and kindness. I think there was a very good reason Lisa, who wanted to save people's lives, implied to descend from vampire hunters, looked at this giant vampire lord of an evil castle and thought "this is a good man I want to have a child with". aside from the fact that he's very handsome ofc--
But it was probably not perfect. I also imagine Dracula to be a bit... demanding from Alucard - now he expects something in return from him. Even more so with Hector and Isaac as his students. I can imagine Lisa asking him to be more gentle with the kids. She might also rationalize his need for human blood with "he feeds just like any animal", and offer her own to spare him a hunt. And of course, we know that when Lisa was killed, Dracula had no respect for her love for humanity.
I don't know, I think Draculisa is more interesting to me with some shadows that dim its light. Dracula's good side is fascinating for me to think about, because I don't want him to be "good deep down" until the stupid humans angered him (Mathias was a horrible, horrible person too), but also I don't want him to be nothing but pure evil. As I said: Lisa saw something in him, enough to build a life with him. It says a lot about both of them.
All of your kiss ficlets are just incredible! I know it may be unreasonable to request my blorbos, but if you feel inspired, Simon & Selena, for any kiss that speaks to you. (Thank you in advance!) - SQ
Aww, thank you 🥺
Then... 23!
~
…in relief.
It was over.
The past days spent kneeling at her bed and praying for God, the weight of dread crushing her insides, had become nothing but an unpleasant memory the moment Simon was gently allowed off his horse. He was coated in blood and grime, pieces of his armor were missing, one eye was swollen shut: Selena had never seen something more beautiful in her life.
Simon won. Against all odds, he proved himself against the Lord of all evil.
But he was not out of the woods yet. Selena held one of his arms, the one he could move, as she lead him to their bedroom, where at last Simon could be cleaned up, healed, and allowed his deserved rest.
Neither of them spoke while Selena scrubbed the blood off his skin and sewed his gashes shut. The silence surrounding them was like music, full of the words they so desperately needed to say to each other; but not yet. Simon still struggled to open his mouth. Selena did not know where to begin to express the happiness ballooning inside her.
Simon stretching his face in the loveliest smile he had ever gifted her since their wedding gave her pause. Unable to resist, Selena planted a kiss on his brow, then his nose, then his scarred cheek, and at last his lips, once, twice, over and over; Selena felt as if she could have lifted her husband in her arms and twirled him in the air, and the only reason she instead wrapped her arms around Simon's neck was because her poor husband was quite fragile, still.
But she was sure he won't mind if she made up for lost time. They had plenty, now.
