In the first few days of the campaign, I sat on the committee that made the final candidate appointments (150 of them!). We ploughed through reams of very good people but in only a few instances were we ever able to acertain if they would make good MPs. They were experts in their fields, but we never found out if they could work as a team, build consensus, handle disappointment or rejection. We reap what we sow.
