ALL CHANNEL 4  SIMON R PIRES

Today I was able to finally go inside channel 4 studio, where I was given a tour of the building, but most importantly knowledge on how to create and send in new ideas to channel 4 themselves.

We started off with an introduction by Yasmin Mehmet who taught us a brief history of the company and many partnerships channel 4 has had over the years, we even learnt why we have to watch so many ads before a show. This is due to the show being publicly owned and relying on ad revenue to maintain that way of life, so don't hate them, you should be helping them, by watching them.

Once the introduction was done and we finished our tour we were greeted by the commissioner of channel 4 Christian Kehoe, here we learnt the steps needed to get a show off the ground and broadcasted on TV, so some advice I can give, is if you want that 21:00 slot, you better have something original and a project you truly believe can have that slot, due to it roughly bringing in 1.3 million viewers, it won't go to just anyone.

Finally, we were giving a quick rundown of all the apprenticeships coming up through 4talent and how to apply and increase our chances of successfully getting an interview.

Jamie Olivers Headquarters and JAMIE OLIVER!!! Simon R Pires

If I told you that I would be heading off to meet Jamie Oliver Production team to learn how  Jamie Oliver started off and how he became the man he is today, you probably wouldn’t believe me now,  however it happened. After two masterclasses in marketing and digital content, we entered Jamie’s studio, allowing us to see where he  films the majority of his content ( He has a Gold Youtube Button hanging the)

I was able to learn how to film and produce content, by learning each individual role such as director, sound producer, and food stylist, each with a massive responsibility to help capture not only Jamie’s massive personality but make his food look even greater.

Today was by far one,  of the most fun days I have had in a while and that is saying something, but to top it all off the man himself came in and spoke for five minutes straight of just wisdom and motivation. I have left Jamie Oliver’s headquarters with more confidence and a full stomach.

Life of Nelson Mandela - Exhibit  Simon R Pires

Hello everyone, Been a while since I posted something, but today I want to tell you about the time I visited the Nelson Mandela exhibition, where I and the whole of #creativityworks-s8 were able to experience his whole life and history. We started first with a short film about Nelson Mandela explaining his struggles and his fundamentals of life and how he became the man he is today. 

The exhibit than begins with a section called early years, which explores his life from 1918-1941, this then leads into the struggles of black people and Nelson Mandela life from 1941-1964 and the segregation of black people. The ending however, is a another short film about his rise and triumph, how he was able to change the world, even with all the suffering he endured, proving that the people who hurt us, is not powerful and we should not hate them but pity them, for they do not know what it means to love themselves or others.

I also picked out two quotes that stood out to me the most, especially in the world we are living in now.

I like friends who have independent minds because they tend to make you see problems from all angles.’

INNOVATION FM - SIMON R PIRES

Can’t believe I am already on the third week of my journey and this week I was learning about creating a radio/Podcast shows. We discussed what equipment is needed, plus the basics of making sure your sound are top notch.

Equipment:

I learnt how budgets can play a major role in your sound production, however, you can still create good content with an H2N Zoom recorder, Laptop and a pair of headphones. But if you do have some cash laying around, you can invest in a Blue Snowball or Yeti or an H4N PRO, H6 recorder with an NTG2 microphone.

Idea:

With the show only being five minutes long, we had to plan our jingle, intros/ transitions and content, with each of us given a role. we spent the first day planning a script, while I the produced with @MaggieMlado and organised the recordings. My group decided the name of innovation and theme for the show, meaning success and change, as for the logline I created the phase: where progression is the norm. After all, moving forward should always be the norm.

DISTRIBUTION 

I learnt that the best and easiest way to upload content such as Radio/Podcasts would be SoundCloud, due to it being the most accessible to everyone. I also decided to take some pictures to show off our wonderful talent behind the show, working with Maggie and  @EnebeliPierre in order to promote INNOVATION FM. Big thanks to the team @ChavezJWS @GreatOkosun ‏ and the hosts, @TrustInJess ‏ , @MariusPatrice   plus guest @TripSixVivo for bringing this project to life.

Making a snap, off a snap at SNAPCHAT.

Today, in the early morning of central London, I met up with my trusty media companions to the hidden headquarters of Snapchat, Where I began my day by eating a chocolate Croissant and learning about Snapchat. We started with a brief history of the company, then began discussing ways we can use digital platforms such as Snapchat to promote and advertise ideas. One of the most interesting ways of doing this was by using augmented reality, allowing audiences to play around and even drive sales to a particular product, such as air jordans trainers, which snapchat help sell out in under 20mins. Now imagine how this tool can be used for other products, where a simple thing you are playing around with, can then be at your doorsteps on the same day, all through your smartphone. Once we had our minds blown, we began designing our very own snapchat filters. Which honestly was way easier then I had imagined. Overall it was a blast to meet Tariq, Eugene and Agent Bruce at snapchat. What a company.
