after this post by @omar-rudeberg beautiful btw i listened to thhe song dad... and omfg
the rhythm it uses. it clearly has too parts. the slow irregular one and the coming back and fading faster paced one.
the first one is Simon's dad. it's in slower, because hes older of course, but paired with the irregularities, it's his dad being drunk. missing steps, swaying while trying to walk.
the second one is simon. the fast paced one. Hes a child, excited and quick and he runs after his father, he doesnt understand what's happening, hes just a kid. Then he does understand. The steps get louder, him trying to catch his father, run after him, save him potentially, cleaning up after him. Running through his life, caring for his mother, raising Sara, hoping his father won't ruin more.
and then theres these very quiet high long notes in the background. it shows all the anxiety Simon's dad brought with him. symbolises the screaming that happend, how it's still ringing in his ears.
and then theres the second part after both steps faded. then the slower notes return, but higher. They return and they're steady now. I dont think this means that Simon's father is a better person now. I think these, because they're slightly higher, resemble Linda, stepping in, being the steady parent Simon always needed. Guiding him, rather than walking off.
